The Catalog and Videos at That Site We Shall Not Name

Post by Odinsdragondaughter » Sat Oct 25, 2008 4:04 am

Like almost everyone, I have videos hosted at dear old YT. Since a-m-v.org does not allow links to YT, I am presented with a delightful problem. I have a few videos that may break a-m-v.org's rules (most of Gojyo's shower scene in Saiyuki Requiem, Sanzo splattered with blood in Saiyuki Burial) or otherwise not fit in with a-m-v.org's general criteria (AMVs that include photos of animals, etc). So, I either not include them which leaves the catalog incomplete or I risk being banned without warning. I'll let the mods decide what to do with them.

I am Odinsdragondaughter at YT if you want to see the videos in question.

okay if the video is too violent or is pretty much hentai then you are allowed to list the video, but you can't make a local link, or a direct link (from what I understand), however you are allowed indirect links :3 and if you need hosting this post may help you... (if his offer is still up)

as for videos containing "non-anime" as a main video source, we don't consider those "AMVs" here, so therefore you wouldn't be making an incomplete entry by not posting them at all here... however you are allowed to link to them in the "Profile" part of your profile (you know, the part where you are supposed to drone on about yourself....) or your signature (providing your links don't conflict with the org Forum Rules/signature rules).

and if the content is questionable for local hosting, you can always pm a mod and ask them... or ask on the forums people's opinions on weather or not they think it's okay for hosting... however a mod would have final say in the matter, there are some locals on the forums that do know when a video crosses that very vague line.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't more specific because I'm talking about more than one video and I didn't want the initial question post to get too long. Also, I'm not a huge fan of writing long autobiographies in lots of profiles. It makes more sense for details to come out in the course of conversation.

Frankly, I so do not want to bother with a third host. YT's rejection of one of my videos is the sole reason I'm here at all. The point for me is to keep my whole catalog together in just one place if possible.

OK. Details:

- "Gojyo Needs A Dirty Woman"

The question here is how much skin is too much skin? I'm a moderator at Beefcake Central's gallery so I know what it's like to have to decide what is adult content and what is not. Over there, we decided that naked backsides is OK as long as it isn't "in your face". However, not everyone everywhere will agree with us that the view from the rear isn't offensive. If you've seen Requiem, you probably know that we see Gojyo from top to bottom. Literally

- "Genjyo Sanzo's Sorrow"

This one probably isn't too graphic but there are the typical Saiyuki-esque piles of bodies and blood splattered everywhere.

-"Ukoku: I Shall Become Your God", "Saiyuki Wolves At Chomolungma", & "Hakkai: Though Shall Not"

The animals take up roughly half of each video, but they are there as representations of the characters.

Euhm, "Hakkai: Thou Shall Not" also vaguely touches on the subject of incest. It isn't obvious, but the lyrics of the song do hint at it and the story itself (at least in the manga) point blank tells you what Hakkai's relationship to his sister was.

I think that covers all of the questionable videos.

as far as violence goes if its just a lot of blood it should be ok, but if it's people being decapitated or their innards being ripped out, then that's not okay for local.... you can still list the video here, it's just that you would want to indirectly host the video if you want people to watch it. So the video would still be on your list, its just that people would have to go to another site to download it

"artistic nudity" is fine here, though sex scenes that are meant to be porn (or from a dvd you would find at at the video store either behind one of those "bunny screens" or in "the back room where children aren't allowed") are not allowed... shower scenes and people standing around naked are perfectly fine
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gojyo Needs A Dirty Woman - this is fine, its only a shower scene..
Genjyo Sanzo's Sorrow - even the gun violence shouldn't be too much of an issue, because for the most part its decapitation and cutting one's bowels out that will get you removed from local... (see first episode of Elfen Lied to see what kind of violence I'm talking about)
The three with the animals - since the main focus is the anime after all from what i can tell it should be okay... slide shows heh O.o
Ukoku: I Shall Become Your God - incest (implied or not) isn't an issue around here if it was then all the Angel Sanctuary and Koi Kaze videos wouldn't be around.
It's be a simple as saying "if it violates youtube's guidelines it violates ours (content wise)", but AMVs are against youtube's ToS anyways, so it's a rather moot point.
Okie Dokie. Thanks, folks. These should all be OK to directly host here then. Ironically, the one that was rejected at YT was blocked there only because of music copyright. Go figure. I don't ever have plans to do anything too gory or pornographic because such would be a bit of overkill anyway. :)
Just out of curiosity, does a-m-v.org have a listed of songs we aren't allowed to use?
You can use any song you want, but amvs using Evanescence, Seether and Creed can't be downloaded.
if you want to know why, grab a snack and read this and the follow up thread
and if you didn't know already, I don't think you can make a direct link to youtube
OK. I nosed around the Help and Announcements subforums before posting my first question so I knew about those three. D'oh! Heh. I won't ever use any of those three artists anyway because it seems like everyone and their dog already did them to death. :)
It's good to know we can use a larger catalog of music here. Nothing is more fun than eternally running up against copyright issues after weeks of hard work on a project. I have the same problem with fan art at deviantart. Argh.
