Are you enjoying the Olympics regardless of Politics?

Yea, it has to be that, and not the fact that the majority of the audience actually works or sleeps for the better part of the day that isn't prime time.guy07 wrote:Is it true that the american network showing the Olympics DELAYED it so they could get more money for prime time commercials? 0-0;

I thought the footprint fireworks were pretty cool, and then I found out that all but the last were faked for the TV broadcast. Granted, that would have been incredibly difficult to actually film well, even from multiple helicopters.
For some reason, I usually get pretty excited about the Olympics, but this year I just don't feel like I've gotten into it. Maybe when I start watching some more of the sports I enjoy it'll happen, but it just feels like this year has lost a lot of its lustre.

Politically speaking.
Interesting seeing Bush treat it as a vacation.
Putin is likely glad he's only the PM right now.
Harper, he just didn't feel like going. Yeah for my government looking stupid again.
Tibet, hmm I sympathize with them a bit. But, I think the most they are doing is showing that peaceful protests usually only work on western democracies. Peaceful protests are not known to work in Communist dictatorships.
Thus, in the end, Tibet needs to get real.
It's a country that's nothing but friggin mountains. They could likely have more fun tormenting China's military, than the Taliban is having with the west.
but they'd have to be happy with KILLING Chinese soldiers too I suppose.
Leave, or I'll say leave again.
I want the Olympics to be a gathering of nations for a noble cause, really I do.
The athletes can't exactly just pick the time and place.
It just happens to be in China this time.
China, a county of billions not millions, with a need for food, and they have a large potent war machine to back up that need.
And they also own a LARGE chunk of the US debt. Don't go looking for the US to shove the Chinese around, not unless they feel like paying their bills any time soon.
