Very sorry to hear that it happened like this, but I have to say, I'm really stoked for a Sept/Oct timeframe, since I'll actually be living on the SFU campus at that point.
Hope things go as smoothly as possible for you Vlad, looking forward to maybe actually getting to be there this year.

I hope Vlad manages to secure a suitably awesome room for the AMV theater and the contest.

Yes, it has and I am working on the details...
However, seeing that the event is on the same date AND I've sent off the judging discs earlier in the week the minute I found out, nothing will change in the contest and I'll send that out to all contestants
Thanks everyone for your patience...
As for the room, AE is aware on how popular the AMV room so I'm confident the room will be of a reasonable size

I had heard about this from some exec staffers I know from other cons - sorry to hear your had so many issues. Were you all working without a contract from your venue or did they breach the contract?

The issue was the older venue and the miscommunications on both sides and I don't think the contract was finalized due to verification of the summer semester schedule. They have a new contract with the new venue University of BC (old one was with Simon Fraser University)... Dealing with Universities is not the same as private place like hotels or Convention centers and so something like this can essentially happen a lot eaiser.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I had heard about this from some exec staffers I know from other cons - sorry to hear your had so many issues. However, It's not anything I control and as the dates are the same, I've put into motion the contest again to ensure the high quality of judging I've strived for remains. As such, I can't make changes to the contest as there is no time. If event was postponed as originally announced (but there was so much outcry), I would of allowed changes from contestants...
I hope that makes for a better explanation.. trust me, this has been a nightmare for everyone, however at least I can be grateful the event is still on same dates and will happened.. Hence the CONTEST and AMV ROOM are still going forward! The CON LOVES the AMV room and contest and it’s one of the most popular events of the con!

Oh I hear you there - If they breach contract it's not going to hurt them in any way unless they're in the habit of renting out their space for private events - you make a fuss over it (or sue - like anyone dealing with a breach of contract should do) and they blacklist you and there goes your venue forever.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:The issue was the older venue and the miscommunications on both sides and I don't think the contract was finalized due to verification of the summer semester schedule.
