what counts as anime?

Post by Jasta85 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 5:16 pm

ok, i know this site only accepts vids that have the majority of source material being anime or related games etc resembling anime. however, what about original material that resembles/is based off of anime. for example Darci-San's Greed vs Envy is original animation and is not anime, but it is based off of anime. it's been on the top 10% for a long time so obviously no one has a problem with it. so is just about anything anime related allowed even if it is not actually anime or even made in japan?

In order to be anime it does have to originate or be under the control of a Japanese company... There is a lot of stuff that is border line OR was allowed previously here, but that is what we are operating under right now...

Guess the old "original animation by the creator of the video' clause got removed. That hits some of Big Big Truck's videos too. Ah well. Some of the fan animated ones were interesting.

This is the current definition that the site currently uses: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=63288
In general the above is what is considered to be confirmed as anime, although other sources in the spirit of anime may be used such as original art or printed material (manga), in general these sources are not really anime themselves for the most part.
In other words, it is still a gray line.
