Question about vidoe catalog and the rules

Post by Kanti13 » Sat Jun 07, 2008 4:33 pm

I'm new and I haven't uploaded any videos yet so here is my question:

On the entering video page it says this
The point of the catalog is to list every video ever created, not just good videos and not just videos that are downloadable.
The issue I have is that when I started making amvs I had no idea how to get them on the computer and used fansubs. I know that is against the rules of the site (I have since gotten decrypter and get the anime straight from my dvds). So should I not upload any of the videos that I made with fansubs or should I include them for the sake of listing every video ever created?

- Maybe I'm making a problem out of nothing cuz I've seen videos here with subs, but since I figured out how to make them the legal way it's important to me to go by the rules.

Provided they use mostly anime (by the site rules), then yes, go ahead and make catalog entries for them. Whether or not you want to upload them is up to you. The "no dled footage" rule exists mostly in an attempt to keep the anime companies at bay. (For, while they COULD shut us down for copyright infringement, if they had to choose between cracking down on the site that endorses buying your footage and the one that is all for downloading footage, they'd probably go after the one that uses the downloaded footage.) But that rule is not enforced. So you can still upload it, though viewers will probably get on your case for your vid having subs. ;)

Also, if you don't actually think those videos are very worth sharing, you don't HAVE to upload them for the sake of the listing of every video ever created - there are many people who don't upload their older videos and many that haven't even discovered this site or who don't want to share their videos themselves for that matter. It's up to you really.

Ok, cool. I made a catalog of everything and I'm probably gonna upload them all. Some of them are pretty good I think, although my later vids are better. I guess it is something that can just be taken into account when evaluating videos. That's what I get for downloading, crappy looking videos.
Honestly, I don't know how I have managed to make so many amvs in different systems knowing so little about computers in general. The first time I tried to make an amv I tried ripping it like music and couldn't get passed the copyright thing, so I assumed that's how most people did it (downloading). And a certain un-namable website would perpetuate that notion. I was really excited when I found out I was able to get it from the dvd to the copm.
I will always be a noob. I like the rule tho. Thanks for the input :)
