Aspect ratio...problem O_o

That was part of a small experiment I did were I converted to mpeg2, then indexed it since I didn't care about quality. Either way, I've made the same avs for the dv2 and mkv (changing the plugin of course) and it doesn't affect the AR problem.

Could you post a sample of the source file?

(Start mkvmerge GUI, add your file, click the Global tab, check Enable splitting, enter a low filesize or duration, set the max. number of files to 2, enter an output filename and press Start muxing.)

well, I don't have mkvmerge, and right now it seems easier just to wait a week or two. I was honestly hoping it was a simple setting I missed. Thanks very much for your trouble anyway.

You are better off waiting for the DVD. The thing with downloaded files is that they have already been processed. Different IVTC methods can cause scene changes to be offset sometimes which may affect your timing. Also if it's not a DVD rip (a TV capture) then it's unlikely to be the same duration as the DVD in which case the whole AMV will be skewed and completely useless (easiest way to imagine this is sponsor labels that don't always make it to DVD).

Also if you are converting the MKV to MPG, it may be the encoder that is downscaling it to 720x480, as some will just assume it should be that size, or that it's being encoded for DVD.

There's also an extreme outside possibility that the MKV isn't 1280x720 but is actually 720x480. You see in the MKV container you can specify a resolution for it to be displayed at on playback, so you can encode 720x480 but make MKV tell the player it should be resized to 1280x720. I say extreme outside possibility because it is just that. I'm really clutching at straws because as mentioned by someone else, things don't seem to match up.

We really need to know what software and encoders you are using, and a sample of the clip. If you cannot post a sample, PM me a link to where you got it.
