speed things up a bit

hello people. I am a little noobish.
I use sony vegas 8.
Now everytime i speed up the velocty of a particular clip over say for exxample 120% or slow it down to 80% or lower, the rendered clip looks blank.
Just to let u know, My sources are all lagarith compressed.

oh. .by the way, my question is if there are other ways to speed or slow things down drastically as ive seen in other amvs.
