The reason I ask, is I don't know anyone that still uses a vhs machine let alone anything on vhs.
I recall my friend going and dropping his vhs collection like it was stock that was plunging in value back when dvd finally started appearing in any sort of amount (must have been no earlier than 2000).
He had at the time a quite serious friggin impressive anime collection then too. Not just "some" anime, but anime the likes of which would allow for an instantaneous rental operation to start up

He dumped it at the local retail location that sold anime (yes we actually had a couple of asian stores that provided anime), and got store credit and converted over to dvd.
The owner likely cut him a lot more slack than anyone would have gotten, the same way any logical business usually treats a customer that can be relied on to buy 1/3 or more of your stock on a regular basis.
Myself, I think I have 3 vhs anime tapes around here somewhere. Relics that were dumped on me by friends that now have dvd copies.
I wouldn't even keep them at all if not for the fact that I still have a small tv/vcr combo I use to watch some old vhs documentaries and movies I can't locate in dvd for love of money yet.
To me, my anime is either fansub downloads on dvd storage, or dvds themselves.
I turfed vhs out of my life the second I managed to get unlimited broadband internet.
Might not sound "nice" from a commercial standpoint, but I had no qualms downloading a film, and then giving away the vhs copy. Besides, no one in my nowhere town had any interest in stocking my moldy oldie documentaries and war movies anyway.
And I sucked at doing video capture copies. As I saw it, I was just being lazy downloading the copy. It's not like I was getting a better copy (ever watched old documentaries in dvd
