if you had a clip set up on track 1 that you might have overlooked then yea, but if nothing is there then there should be no difference.... what is the settings of your keyframes?

u probably had but just ot make sure, since u only want the wave for small portions, did u make sure to stop the wave effect at the same point on ur timeline u stop ur mask?. otherwise teh mask might be disappearing and the wave then goes on to wave the whole screen. like i said tho, u prolly did but u may have overlooked

wow, thanks for the quick response...

Ok, so I want ahead and moved on to my next set of events, this time I finally found a convoluted work around, I copied my effects track(the one with the wave) and pasted it on track 1. I then set my opacity on track 1 to 100%, and switched the copied mask to negative (thus letting only the masked area of the bottom track through) for some reason though, I now can't put any film effects I need on track 1 because the seem to get bright and doubled over the masked area, if I try to balence it out by putting film effects on my effect track, it will bearly make an effect on it's own track, but the track above it, ( which is at 100% opacity) will be almost completly blotted out by the grain, same thing with tint.
hope that made since.
if yall can think of a much easier way (and cleaner) way to get this effext pleasse tell me.

lets see, on that scene I think I had "film effects" and "sepia"jaddziaDax wrote:what effects do you have on the bottom clip?
I had a few minor glitches like that, but I'd already fixed them as of my screenshot.prYzm wrote:u probably had but just ot make sure, since u only want the wave for small portions, did u make sure to stop the wave effect at the same point on ur timeline u stop ur mask?. otherwise teh mask might be disappearing and the wave then goes on to wave the whole screen. like i said tho, u prolly did but u may have overlooked

I meant on the diamonds themselves, not the lines...
and don't think you know what effects are on it.. KNOW what effects are on it O.o
what it looks like to me is that you might have put the squiggley thing on the lower video line as well, is it possible you accidentally stuck it on the entire track?

Man, sorry it's taking me so long to respond,
anyway, thanks for all the help, in the end I just had rushed into it without any planing and, after it messed up, just strated trying different things without sitting back and thinking about it until I didn't know what was what anymore. I finally decided just to start from scratch. >.>
however, there is one effect that I've been curious about, does know how to (if possible) to put a border around a mask? like say, if you want to cut out a rectangle to show the track underneath, could you put a small black border around it? I can think of several places where it would be useful.
once again, many thanks.

i can think of 2 ways, both are a bit time consuming though. first - do ur masking in photoshop, doesnt really help with moving images but if its a stillshot its not too much problem, then after u have ur mask just colour around it (if u dont know how to do that u phail @ photoshop)
second - after u made ur mask, copy the mask (right click on ur diamond copy), create a new track and insert a black screen then past ur mask onto that. enlarge ur mask to however big u want your border. its kinda sloppy but if u spend time tweaking it, it would work.
