Announcement forum suggestion
I know the site announcements is on a much shorter time frame for locking old posts than other parts of the forum, IIRC it's two weeks. I'd suggest this two week timer start from when the topic is made rather than the last post in the topic. Right now there are several topics in the first page of the announcement forum that have been hanging around forever. I'm getting kinda sick of seeing them constantly being bumped (unintentionally mostly, although at least one seems intentional). These for <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... example were all threads started in September and are current on the first page. Anyway, after a couple weeks anyone who was going to look at the video because of the announcement probably already has so it's just taking up space and knocking other announcements off the first page.

there's also an extent to the amount of necro-posting and pointless bumping that can be allowed to take place. Should we allow it to continue in the hopes that people will one day realize bumping a month old thread is wrong? We have QCs for the people who just want to tell the creator "wow, I liked this alot! 5/5"Greggus1 wrote:there's an extent to which you can use rules to replace educate.

I think the 2 week auto lock on amv announcemnt threads after no new post is fine enough.
2 of the threads i see mentioned, just seem to show people commenting on the video.
As for that one thread,
Just because someone responds to someone days later
after its been posted doesn't neccesary mean they are just trying to keep the thread up.
Somedays people aren't able to have access to the computer because they are busy with things or have some kind of problem.
If a thread is just constantly being bumped with random posts or you think someone is just trying to keep a thread up, you can always
just leave a message in the mod drop box and they will check it out.

Re: Announcement forum suggestion
The autolock doesn't actually have an option to do that. It's pretty basic.godix wrote: I'd suggest this two week timer start from when the topic is made rather than the last post in the topic.

The whole idea of posting comments on the video in an announcement thread is kinda bleak anyways. They could just be said in a QC. Most of the comments will have an effect on what other people say anyways. I hardly ever post comments on the announcement thread, usually only if the vid had a big impact on me.
Why not just not allow reply posts on video announcement threads? I'm guessing many people are gonna object to this idea but to me knowing the video has been uploaded and is now available is enough. QC's are for the commenting. This way no video will be on the annoucement thread forever and every video has an equal chance of being noticed. I don't keep track of how many vids are uploaded a day but im guessing just about every vid uploaded that day would have a good chance of being caught by everyone that had been waiting for it.
Just throwing that idea out there... I like it but i'm betting it's gonna get heavy resistance cause people just love to post in friends announcement threads so that EVERYONE can read them...

I think this thought is wrong for me. Every new good creator has to be discovered. If we do the announcement thread without replies, everybody just waits for the big fishes. I know it by myself: If a thread has at least some posts it gets much more interessting than one without. Much more people will just wait for the big fishes they already know. I can really imagine how Copycat Revolver got more and more popular with every singel post in his announcement thread and I know it by myself. First you don´t even get 3 posts and after a while they "discover" that you might not be someone that creates randomn crap.
There might be another way:
Maybe there can be an option in your profile, where you can set it up that the topics are all ordered after the day of creation. Is it possible? and better said... does it work for a lot of people?

That works both ways though. If the first comment says that it sucked and had a ton of problems.... A ton of people wont bother watching it. Without that first post the people that gave the thread a look might still download it and leave a QC.
With the no response on threads, QC's and opinions will likely increase too cause people wont be able to post on threads.

Whoa
I never seen anyone suggest something like that before.
Yeah, it could have some good things about it.
Ofcourse it would take away the fun alot of people (including me)
have posting in AMV announcment threads ^_^
There would probably be a problem though with that.
Since alot of threads are posted everyday,
alot of real good videos will get pushed down pretty quickly without some people noticing them since no one can reply
to them.
Good:
1: No problems with OT posts, ocasional flames and repeated bumping just to keep a thread up.
2: Like you said, QC's and opinions will likely increase too cause people wont be able to post what they think about it on threads.
3: You wont have people complaing about seeing threads hanging around too long.
Bad:
1: No fun posting in announcment threads =(
2: Some good videos wil get pushed off the page quickly withought getting noticed
3: Alot of people wont be happy with that kind of change and would probably complain about it ALOT.
I like being able to post in announcment threads and seeing posts that other people made.
Alot of fun stuff happens in those announcement threads sometimes ^_^
That would be a huge thing to adjust to if they actually decided to do that.
Not to mention there are some people that are too lazy to do a regular opinion on a video sometimes and just post what they think on the threads.
I know im guilty of this ^^;
