My brother, returning from his first year of college, showed me "Bitches," and I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. It wasn't until over a year later when I went to college that I got real interested in AMVs. I watched an abundance of shitty Linkinball Z videos and said to myself, "Hell, I can do better than that!" So, I made a Linkinball Z video. And then a Jamiroquai-DBZ one. And so on and so on. Also, somewhere in there I saw Phade's "Material Girl," and found this site. Yay! ^_^
So was it hard for you to come up with your first AMV idea?

Eh, pretty much like Wonka and Beowulf, except that when I make AMVs they're not good

I was into video editing along time ago, way before I saw ay AMV's. Initially I started making AMVs because of a challenge I made to myself. After watching my first amv, MJ's Butterfly wings vid, I decided that I could do much better so I went and borrow my friends entire Gundam Wing set and made the vid (I already had capturing and video editing equitment due to my parents wanting me to grow as a possible next Speilburg). The vid actually came out well but I never got around to posting the vid, someday I will post it for the hell of it all. ^-^

Story time! Story Time!
Story time! Story time! I guess I'll add mine. When I graduated my school put together a sort of Anthology put to our class song. At that time I was only sorta' into Anime. OK I sorta' wasn't... See WAYYYY back in the '80s I HIGHLY enjoyed Jack McKinneys Robotech books only my bro told me that the toons were nothing like the books so there went that. Than in the early 90s I got into Spawn, Wildcats, Xmen and the same time Dragonball, I loved it but still it never hit me as something foreign... Than about a year out of HS I finally got a DVD drive and decided to drop some coin for Robotech. Still it's not really anime but it was my first anime love (I've always highly prefered console rpgs to pc-type rpgs so I've always liked the anime art style just... well it never HIT me!) I than caught one episode of Bebop on Cartoon Network and it FINALLY hit me like a bag of bricks. I was hooked like a crackhore on anime-crack
. Upon seeing 'Cowboy Funk' I got the holy vision of putting it together with Missy and Janet's Son of a Gun. Have no Idea why it's still the only Son of a Gun vid up there... probly cuz I took the idea and nobody else wants to one-up me
anyway. So thing was I never saw an AMV till I had the idea... coarse after getting the idea I did a bit of research and found this place, my holy grail, and was told to get premier blah-de-blah. So I made it and that's history.
Funny thing is... the school I graduated from is a PRIVATE, christian school ;-p wonder if they knew they were pirating a song (by Micheal W Smith no less ;-p) or if they actually got his copyright. Wonder what editing SW they used
that musta been a real bitch to make as it was like 8 years ago and was actually on beat with transitions (if I remember right).

One day about 1 and a half years ago I haphazardly found Blue Mercury on some site and immediately decided that amv's were the coolest thing ever. Interestingly enough, I had about $1000 laying around from my job and graduation (8th grade ;P) so I ran out and bought a 1337 new Vaio for which to attain the awesomnity that was AMV. I started editing right away under the impression that it would be easy, and ended up spending 6 months on doom9 reading and reading and reading before I got a handle on all the aspects of video editing/encoding. In the mean time I made half of an AMV that I never finished and since I've done some short editing projects, made an amv that I never released, but focused more on encoding becuz, you know, copying those dvds is fun stuff ;]

not really that hard for me
I am a novice AMV maker, and still learning to make AMVs nifty. I made my first AMV with footage from Dual! Parallel Troubles and Music by the Foo Fighter's New Way Home.
At first it was a pain..but then it grew on me. I had to do it three times to get things right, and I think that one is a pretty good one.
So far I have made 11 AMVs. (Yes I had lots of free time during August) I think my other ones are nice as well, though I can see some minor probelms.
