I'm thinking about using an extremely fast paced rap remix, it's a song by Prefuse 73 using lyrics from Mikah 9.
The lyrics I don't fully have wroten down (there's actually nowhere on the internet that i can find that has them; the song's called "Life Death", by Prefuse 73 using lyrics from Mikah 9, if anyone can find them i'd really owe you);
however, from the 85-90% i can understand, they would REALLY fit well with Death Note. (think about the DNWA AMV, just with much quicker lyrics, and a shit-ton more effects; not saying that was a bad AMV, rather the opposite, i think it was awesome)
However, the lyrics go SO fast that I think some people may not even know why i'm using some clips at some points. So, in that regard, do you think it'd be ok to have subtitles at the bottom of the screen showing the words as they appear, fading the words out, etc.?

This is a good case for softsubbing. You could either distribute the subtitle file separately or package the video up as an MKV or MP4 and put them in there as selectable, which is what I've done with my three most recent videos (although In Search Of Meaning doesn't have them in selectable form; the files are stored in a ZIP in the Attachments area because for some reason it wanted to suck up resources - maybe my computer was just bad about it then - the low-res version that was also attached is truly softsubbed, however) and the track I did for the first Nightwish MEP.

Have you never seen a fansub? Adding text is relatively easy. If you create a SRT file it can be muxed into a mp4 with a modified version of ZarxGUI found here by ChronoWraith.post-it wrote:.. I don't think adding Sub's to an AMV would be possible unless there were a Guide on How To Do It. Otherwise, it would just be Showing-off!

Taruto's Kastles of Sand video had subtitled lyrics for the song. While I enjoyed the video, the subs were just too distracting. To me, they're no different from there being regular subs on a video. And I know that Taruto too added a version without subs after so many requests. I say that if you are going to do it, either make a softsubbed version of it or have two different links to the subbed and non-subbed versions. Otherwise, wouldn't putting the lyrics in the description be so much easier/better?
