My suggestion would be "incongruity".
But when I was looking up descriptions of the Singing in the Rain scene from A Clockwork Orange, all I could find was "juxtaposition".

Well, i'm grateful for the response... "fucked up" is close to it i guess, but i can't believe there isn't a more correct term. I can't think of many examples myself. Tribute.wmv (9/11 footage set to Yakety Sax) is the same sort of thing except it's intent is humor. I was more going for "messing with mental coping mechanisms."

I'm a word nerd, not a film student, but "juxtaposition" doesn't imply anything in particular about the content of the things being put together. It's like "compare." "Compare" doesn't imply anything in particular about content, either.

Maybe there isn't a term, which means that you get to make one up! Woot!

you should call it... a sharp contrast of mood between audio and visual elements in an a/v production :up:
