Convert MKV files

Post by Toshiyan » Sun Aug 26, 2007 5:18 am

Seems I posted this in the wrong forum, so I'll post it here :).

I am looking for a free mkv file converter, or a cheap one :P.

I was looking at river past video cleaner and it's demo seemed to work real well though it still compressed the video after it was converted. Also it's $30 which right not is a lot.

Is there a program that will allow me to convert mkv files to a files that premiere can read that isn't compressed? Since I don't want it compressed while being converted then being compressed again when I'm finished with the video.

also is VirtualDubMod a converting tool? i can't seem to figure out what it is.

I'm also interested in converting ogm files but that seems to be easier than mkv's.

Help appreciated.

Virtualdubmod will sort you out. In future you should try to search the forum first cos this has been asked many times over. Don't come back asking "how to I get rid of the subs" or the sound is messed up cos that is well covered to, in some of the tutorials too, search for streams. Sorry really don't mean to be rude but by the DVDs

Get the amvapp, install huffy and/or lagarinth select them as your codec and AVI as your container to get your lossless vid in virtualdubmod....

with the most relevant guide here [it's a bit long, but has the best explanations]

The app is a bundle of stuff that has pretty much everything you need.I would definitely use vdubmod through an avisynth directshowsource script for .mkv conversion,

Thank you so much :).

By any chance do you know what it's called to cut out characters in one clip and place just the character on top of another clip? I don't even know what it's called so I'm not getting any results from my searches :(.

Thanks for your help again though, I'll definitely go through the guide.
