Grindhouse Trailer

Post by SamuraiJake » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:07 am

I think I'd like to do an AMV with one of the trailers for the movie "Grindhouse". I think it would be a lot of fun to make, but I'm not sure where to start with the anime choices. Let me show you what I mean:

Planet Terror:
Zombies, a band of reluctant heros, military influence, sadistic doctors, at least two heroines and one with a little boy, the "leg/machine-gun" gag, etc. (I was originally thinking GANTZ from the view of the reluctant heroes, but the rest doesn't quite match. Although, as far as the Doctor goes, I was considering using Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion.)

Death Proof:
One bitchin' sports car, a badass driver who's great with the ladies, a bevy of hot women, etc. (Actually, funny as it sounds I'd like to try Speed Racer with this. I'd need to import more women, but the driver and the cars seem to be dead-on.)

What I really need are anime suggestions that might fit these two trailer suggestions. Of course they are very specialized ideas (I'm still wondering how I can get a woman to wear a machine gun as her leg), but I can probably pull this off with the right editing equipment and the patience to use it. Any suggestions will be considered.

Planet Terror:

Hmm, I haven't seen Descendants of Darkness but it looks interesting. Not sure if it will work because (correct me if I'm wrong) it's mostly men, but I'll look into it.

Hellsing seems like it would work...but I'm hoping to use a lesser known anime. I almost thought of Biohazard because the plot sounded pretty similar (but then again, I haven't seen it either)

Death Proof:

I was hoping for more cars than spaceships, but since you mentioned Cowboy Bebop I've been thinking more about it. Logically, I think it would work out just fine. Not enough girls in my opinion, but using Faye, Juila, Catalina, Alisa, etc. as the girls and Jet (not Spike) as the hot rod driver will work if I have nothing else. I would use Jet instead of Spike for one big reason. In the trailer there is an exchange between Kurt Russel's character and a young woman:

"Do I scare you?"
She nodds.
"Is it my scar?"
She replies: "It's your car."

The scar over Jet's eye would work much better to this effect, plus there are plenty of moments where Jet can be both fun and also serious. Anyway, there aren't too many Jet tributes out there, so why not give him a starring role in an AMV?

Any further suggestions will be heard and considered.

Planet Terror:

I see what you're getting at; will definately look into DoD as soon as I can.

Death Proof:

I was considering that car chase near the end with Faye and Juila, but I think most of the chase sequence should be between spaceships. Still, I'm sure I can use part of the Juila/Faye chase as part of the montage sequence.

Thanks for the suggestions JaddziaDax, I'll definately take the seriously in making my final decisions. Of course, any more ideas are more than welcome.

Now I've sort of got a problem.

Death Proof is good to go, but I'm still trying to think of charcters for Planet Terror. I have 4 main characters to incorporate somehow:

- Doc Block: Kazutaka Muraki (Descendants of Darkness)
- Dakota (One hot momma who knows the score):
- Boy ("What if it's dad?"):
- El Wray (Cross him and it's lights out):
- Cherry Darling (She tastes like trouble, with an attitude to boot):

I was initially thinking of El Wray and Cherry Darling being Kei Kurono and Sei from GANTZ, respectfully. Maybe it could work, but even so Cherry needs to be able to roll on the ground (fully clothed) and away from danger. The machinegun-leg shouldn't be hard to do if I find an anime girl who continually sticks her leg out.

Just something to consider. I've already ordered "Riding Bean" to use for Death Proof. More details to come.
