So, um... Are the finalists going to be notified, or what? The con's next weekend, and I'd like to know whether either of my vids made it...

If I hadn't just gotten back from Wisconsin I'd post a giant list of complaints about this, citing examples, but as it is I'm too bloody tired so I'm just listing the major ones.

1. Lack of communication on the coordinator's part, in just about every aspect, including but not limited to FTP information in a timely manner, finalist notification, TELLING US WHETHER OUR VIDEOS WERE EVEN F'ING RECEIVED, etc...

2. Drama and romance were clumped together into one giant 12 video category? What? Whose bright idea was this?

3. Winners in each category were chosen by a judge's committee, which is fine, but the audience choice award... um... I'm told that it was done by loudest cheer, and that not all of the videos were available to the audience to cheer for. Who decided this? Who gets to decide which finalists the audience gets to cheer for?

If you "didn't have the time" to dedicate to running an AMV contest, you should have handed it off to someone else who was willing (and able) to do so. Communication with the editors is key, if you can't even be bothered to respond to emails or forum posts then we can't be bothered to spend months working on a video in order to submit it to a substandard contest - and possibly not even have it be shown because "it was never received" when we get no notification from you that it was not.

I spoke to someone I assume was representing you (mention was a friend of yours?) at the convention about said communication problem.

Summary: I was, and still am, very VERY strapped for time. This happened recently, meaning I can't just send every single video to someone else all of a sudden and say "Hey you! Make an AMV contest, stat!" Even if I could, I have nobody to hand it off to anyway. This was a mix of bad timing and, yes I admit, poor organization. As I said at the convention, I'm not here to screw anyone over and I'm sorry if you feel this way. I literally did the best I could do with the limited amount of time I had.

It was the bright idea of the amount of Drama and Romance videos received (or able to be played, which will be explained later). And the category had 8 videos, not 12. No need for exaggerations.

*edit*
Besides, on the submission form it says "Drama/Romance" . If you had a problem with this, why did you submit?

Again, this is on the count of lack of time I had available and lack of communication I personally have with the CTCon staff. I wasn't able to get them a list of the contestants in time to make a ballot, so I decided on having a cheering contest for the fan favorites.

The fan favorite "finalists" were chosen based on the response of the people during each screening. 4 videos were shown during Intermission and the winner was based on the loudest cheer. Did you expect me to play the entire contest again?

Like I mentioned before, I have nobody to hand it off to and my time has been taken up recently and unexpectedly. I do this AMV contest for Connecticon as a volunteer and, as all conventions and AMV contests go, on my spare time. I did my best with what time I had.

Whats done is done. I'm sorry to anyone who wasn't satisfied with the contest (or events leading up to) this year. I've started to make arrangements for next year if things like this should happen again so that communication can be kept if such an inconvenience happens again.

I'll be posting the playlist and contest winners later tomorrow night.
