Lee's Crazy/Zany/Romantic/Kick Ass AMV Idea Thread

Post by CrazyLee » Thu Jun 07, 2007 8:04 pm

Oh great, so there's yet another idea thread in a forum that already has 150 pages of ideas. Why are you starting yet another one?

Well, let me start off by explaining something. I love music. And I love anime. And I love AMVs.

...Ok, so does everyone else around here.

Allright, let me restart by explaining what happens when I listen to music I really like. It usually starts inspiring me to actually write a video in my head. I start to imagine what an AMV would look like as I listen to a song. I literally start coreographing an entire movie in my fricking head. This understandably makes it interesting to drive down the road while listening to music... I have no problem getting to my destination, but I can't say the same for all the crashed cars behind me....

And what makes you think your idea is special?

I don't. It probably sucks. In fact, I don't put just any idea here, but only the ones I think about for a while. So I usually give it some thought before I post it up. But who knows, it probably still sucks.

Why don't you just make the AMVs by yourself?

I have three very good reasons: 1) I'm too busy. 2) I've never made AMVs in my life. And the best one, 3) I have an absolutely tiny anime collection, as most anime I've seen I've seen at cons, groups, clubs, online, rented from various agencies, or borrowed. It's rather hard to make an AMV if you don't even have footage to make it with.

And what makes you think we'll use any of these ideas?

It's up to you whether to use them or not. I'm just trying to pass along ideas to inspire others to create magic.

Anyway, without further ado, let me begin the list.

Idea #1

Post by CrazyLee » Thu Jun 07, 2007 8:15 pm

Song: Computer Love by Zapp & Roger
Anime: Various (Possibly Chobits)

Idea and theme behind this video:

I first thought up the idea for this video while hearing the song "Computer Love" on the radio. I think this song would be great for an anime involving a female android that the male main character falls for. I think an anime like Chobits, Steel Angel Kurumi, Saber Marionettes, Nuku Nuku, Mahoromatic, Big O, DBZ (LOL!), Armitage... oh you get the idea... Any of these would work, and a combination of these would work even better!

Of course, this gets me thinking of another AMV that's a tribute to android girls in anime....

Idea #2

Post by CrazyLee » Thu Jun 07, 2007 8:51 pm

Oh wow, there's no way to edit my previous posts... oh dear.. I was hoping to keep all my ideas in one post... oh well.

Also, you'll notice that I often suggest "Various" type videos. Don't get me wrong, I think AMVs with one anime work as well, it's just that in order for the footage to fit the music's theme/lyrics, it's a lot easier to use a lot of sources than just one. Of course, kudos to those who do awesome one anime AMVs...

Now on to my second idea...I almost thought of making a separate thread for this one.

Song: Disturbed - Land of Confusion
Anime: Various for sure this time!
Theme: Changing the world, fighting for our future

Thoughs on this AMV idea:

I've had this idea in my head for two years, ever since I heard Disturbed's cover of Genesis's Land of Confusion. I felt the music fit very well in the problems we have even today, even though Genesis wrote the song 25 years ago, we still have the same problems with war and corruption and people suffering. I was thinking that this would make the greatest AMV ever if done right. Now let me explain exactly what my ideas are on this one.

First, you'll notice it says "Various for sure" up there. That's because I've seen quite a few of the other Land of Confusion videos out there and most of them fail to impress me. They don't quite catch the essence of this song. I think this video would work best if it has a bunch of anime in it.

If anyone has seen the official Disturbed video by MacFarlane, it shows ordinary citizens fighting against a nazi army, corrupt leaders and a "moneybags" billionare pulling the strings in the background. I kinda want to see an anime video done in the same style.

In anime with villians and heros with powers and stuff, you often have young, ordinary people, often teens and children, fighting against evil and wickedness and hate, all in the name of love, happiness, bouncy boobs, fanservice, and chibis. It's almost as if these young people are fighting for their own future. In a way this embodies the entire theme of the song. So the whole AMV would be about the heros in anime fighting against evil, and almost being beaten, but they keep on fighting (because dammit, no one else will!) to make the world a better place for them and everyone they love. The AMV will also be an inspiration for people to get up and fight for what they believe in, and to go out and make a difference.

Now, before you go out and start doing this, I feel like this idea is my baby, and thus, I don't want to see anyone do this as their first video. I would rather see someone who has a bunch of videos under their belt, and who's videos are highly ranked, to give this a shot, and to spend a lot of time on it, not just a few hours. Even better, I think this video would make a great group project for the people here at AMV to work on, kinda like AMV Hell.

And because this is my baby, here's the lyrics to the song with my ideas on what kind of footage would best fit with them:

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams [ characters dreaming, sleeping]
Been haunted by a million screams [footage of people being tortured, suffering, crying ]

But I can hear the marching of feet
They're moving into the street
[ have footage of soliders marching.. a good source would be the Zaibach soliders from Escaflowne the Movie ]

Now did you read the news today? [ anime character reading a newspaper ]
They say the danger's gone away [ a news reporter on the tv ]

But I can see the fires still alight
Burning into the night
[ fires off in the distance with characters watching, like a city burning, or a village burning, or something like that ]

There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems [ clips of different villians in anime ]
And there's not much love to go around [ people being slapped, hit, abused, beat up (love hina? lol) ]
Can't you see this is a land of confusion? [ mass insanity, riots, chaos ]

This is the world we live in [ footage of a landscape, or a sun rising on a land burnt or scarred ]

And these are the hands we're given [ shots of different anime hands ]

Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in
[ shots of anime characters looking determined, maybe ]

Oh, superman, where are you now? [ Footage of Goku maybe? LOL! Or someone posing like superman, or something like that ]

When everything's gone wrong somehow [
The men of steel, these men of power [ shots of anime villians who are rich, own businesses, or are government people ]
Are losing control by the hour [ more shots of riots and stuff ]

And this is the time, this is the place [ characters standing on a battlefield maybe ]
So we look for the future [ characters looking forward ]
But there's not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion
[ Ok ok, so maybe this part of the song I have no idea what to put ]

Chorus (same as above)

I remember long ago [ FLASHBACK SCENE!!! Some kind of flashback transition and look for this whole part, like make it look faded ]
When the sun was shining [ Sun flare!! A shot of a sunny day, panning up to look at the sun ]
And all the stars were bright
All through the night [ A night sky, shooting stars ]
In the wake of this madness [ smoldering battlefields ]
As I held you tight [ A male and female holding each other in a conforting, protecting way ]
So long ago [ character with a look of rememberance on his face ]

I won't be coming home tonight [ character standing in open door looking like he's about to walk out the door ]
My generation will put it right [ footage of teenage anime heroes, showing the generation that's fighting to put it right ]
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep
[ Footage maybe of politicans on a pedastal in front of a crowd, making promises as if he's on the election trail, trying to be elected ]

There's too many men, too many people [ Villans again ]
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is a land of confusion?
[ Lots of shots of war, guns, violence, people hitting each other ]

Now, this is the world we live in [ A shot of earth from space, of the sun rising on it and the sunrise line going across the earth ]
And these are the hands we're given [ shots of various hands clenched in fists of determination ]
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for
[ Characters fighting, maybe ]

This is the world we live in [ Another shot of earth ]
And these are the names we're given [ Shots of various anime heroes faces ]
Stand up and let's start showing [ people standing up, putting (10000) fists in the air ]
Just where our lives are going to

[ End video with anime characters fighting against evil and winning ]

Anyway..... like I said, this is just a wild idea, but it's one I've had in my head for 2 years, so I'd love to see it get put to video one of these days. :P

All righty then.... Obviously my ideas suck so much, no one wants to comment about them.

But I'll try once again.

All right, here's three more ideas I've had for a little while, all with the same basic theme, all good ones to do collabs or group projects on. If anyone of these have been done, and done well, then it's fine.

The Tribute Trio:

Theme: Giant Robot Tribute
Anime: Various
Song: ??? Something rocky and fast and hyper
Idea: This is a tribute to all the giant robots EVER featured in anime. I would love to take some song and try to fit as many anime series into it as humanly possible. All footage of mecha from all anime.

Theme: Romance Tribute
Anime: Various again
Song: Something romantic, I had the idea of Brian Adams - Everything I Do
Idea: A tribute to the most beautiful romances ever in anime, the ones that make you want to cry (and there's been a few).

Theme: We love Violence/bloodshed Tribute
Anime: Various (duh)
Song: An agressive rock song, like Drowning Pool - Bodies, or Disturbed
Idea: A tribute to violence and bloodshed in anime, this will have various footage from the most violent, crazy, bloody anime out there, with bullets and chainguns and knives and swords and shit. I can already name off a bunch of anime that would work, and I own a few: Akira, Elfen Lied, Hellsing, Gunslinger Girls, GitS, Cowboy Bebop, Kite, Mezzo Forte/DSA, Dokoru-Chan (LOL)... well you get the idea.

And two more ideas:

Theme: Anti-Suicide
Anime: Not sure about this one...
Song: Three Days Grace - Never too late
Idea: Just want to know if it's possible to make a good AMV out of that song... it would probably be good to find some anime where a character wants to kill themselves and someone ends up stopping them.

I also want to see if I can make an AMV from the song Dig by Incubus but I'm still trying to think about a theme for that one.

Also, I have more ideas on the Land of Confusion video... about how to theme it and stuff.

Oooh!
Im crazy enough to take these three on! ^_^
I bet all 3 ideals probably been done before but id still do them.

Those three would make good MEPs. Although you have to be careful.. in order to fit every anime into say, the Mecha tribute video you'd have to make each clip a milisecond long or have a VERY long song... but a second for some clips might work better.

Like say, if the anime doesn't entirely revolve around giant robots but one appears in it for part of the series, that could be a one second or half second clip. But then series that revolve around robots could have longer clips. Or something.

I'm thinking of trying these ideas in the MEP forum as well... too.

Those three ideals probably would do well as a MEP.
There is a Mecha Project running right now but it only deals with the actual mecha clasified anime.
Since yours is about every giant robot in anime it should work out well.
Id like to see a project like that with the music theme set to Drum&bass music.

I've been thinking about your ideals and will probably start a solo video of your Mecha one in a couple of days.
I really like that one since i can think of a ton of animes that have giant robots in them ^_^
Haven't thougt of the song for it yet but it will definitly be fast and hyper. =)

Eh, I think I'm going to put this on the backburner for a month, until AMV Hell 4 is done, since everyone's working on that.

Then I'll see what other people think.

Thanks for giving this a try though ^.^

Those are some interesting ideas, although Disturbed is a little overdone these days (though none-such as much as Linkin Park).

However, the tribute songs stand out the most to me. I would like to take on one of these sometime in the next few months, but here are some suggestions that might help enhance these projects:

Mecha - good idea, though bringing in every anime robot imaginable might be difficult for ANY editor. My advice, try to think of a few robots from different shows that can be brought together to fight. This is called "crossover" anime.

Romance - "Everything I do" is actually a great song, but it's been parodied all to hell. If that's you're direction then I say go to it, but as far as a real romance AMV I would advice a different song. Maybe Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven"

Action/Violence - Drowning Pool is good, though "Bodies" seems a bit too obvious a choice. Actually I haven't seen a Rage Against the Machine AMV for a while, but Drowning Pool still works. Perhaps with "Ergo Proxy" or "Black Lagoon"?

(Keep in mind these are only suggestions; no flaming is intended here.)
