I'm assuming that the R2s are dual layer DVDs, whereas the AE ones were single layer. Although 6 episodes per dual layer DVD is usually pushing the bitrate for good anime video (especially since JP R2s tend to have uncompressed PCM audio), I don't think there are many (if even any) extras on the DVDs; so the bitrate should be fine. Live action movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy fit the same amount of video (and more) and (low) bitrate isn't much of an issue. Plus, since they were authored with the new remastered print it should compress a bit better than the old AE masters with the frame edge video garbage, blended frames, and generally dirty and worn video.Kionon wrote:I'm concerned. They put on 8 discs, what AE put on 12. Yeah, it's supposedly remastered from a new print, but... I don't like what that says about the bitrate, do you?Willen wrote: It could use some minor tweaking, and comparing the new re-mastered R2JP DVDs to the old AnimEigo versions, the video quality could be (much) better.
Anyways, enough talk about the new R2JP KOR DVDs. It's making me want to buy them more. Must resist...
