Recently some friends have been harassed about some AMV's they have gotton from here on AnimeMusicVideos.org that they have posted on YouTube (basically certain owners of videos telling them to take it down)
My question is this, how do most people feel about their video's being put on YouTube?
(also for the legally knowledgeable, are AMV's protected under DCMA?)

as suggested by many other people who have made similar threads, very few people like it.
I'm not too legally inclined, but I'd say no because most people who make amvs do not own the rights of the music and video that they use (amvs are considered illegal derivative works)
don't be suprised when this topic gets locked

really, a lot of people either care, or don't give a damn
Like, if someone posts a video that's not made by them, and has not given credit, yeah that'll generally piss someone off. but most people here have grown to not give a shit anymore, there's too much crap going on on the tube. (besides, this is the org forum, not the tube forum)
If someone posts a video that they did not make and give credit, some people still get generally pissed off but are glad you gave credit?
sometimes though, people will take footage from other's amvs with effects clearly not made in wmm and say 'hay i made dis in wmm hope u liek it i spent lots of time on it plz rate & comment thnkx'
Or people just do what katie does and add them to her rip-offs playlist.
or....spam the person for the hell of it?
I for one generally don't care anymore. D: if they give credit, more power too them.
if people are harassing your friends I suggest you tell them to put who made the amv, and give a link to the page here where they download it.
yea.

1. its always best to ask the creator if you can upload their work...
I personally dont have a problem with people uploading my videos there as long as people dont try to take credit for the work... I see it as a compliment that someone likes my videos...
but i have seen several cases of people getting very upset about it credit or not
2. no i dont believe that AMVs are "protected under DCMA" O.o y-utube has every right to take them down.

They are in clear violation of youtube's TOS since the person putting them up doesn't hold license to the music, the source footage, or the editing (which IS the part of the package that the creator can lay claim to).JaddziaDax wrote: but i have seen several cases of people getting very upset about it credit or not
