Depending on how fast/slow it is at work today I may just knock out my comment in between calls considering comments really only take a maximum of 30 minutes. :P

And yeah, I'm totally with Animated xD You'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to not know who is who at this point haha. That being said, I'm still going to do my thang and speak mah mind. #YOLO
We had our Skype viewing party last night where we watched both the originals and the remakes so I'm ready! >:O

Video 1
Spoiler :

+ Easy to tell you really do love the original
+ Good source selection for copycat purposes

- Effects work
- The meaning from the original is lost
- Bad Text. Wut r u doing? BAD TEXT! STAAAAAHP!

Original Video
While I'm not a huge VNV fan this video was pretty enjoyable. It made all of us watching nostalgic for the days when video game AMVs with a lot of love and dedication in them were a common occurrence. We've gone from seeing massive amounts on a regular basis to basically none. :<
But anyhoo, it's a pretty neat video and was actually the only one out of the bunch that I hadn't seen before. Being an FF8 fan it gave me plenty of feels and like I said, made us all nostalgic for those classic GMVs. <3

The Remake
To start with, for such a somber and depressing video, advertising with the fact that it's "powered by linux" and it's goofy penguin mascot is a very...odd choice to say the least. It's like marketing the tearjerker movie of the year by having silly puppets come on screen and narrate the trailer.
Casshern was a pretty great choice in source to match the bleak and desolate scenes from FF8. Definite feels and sad death times match that should work successfully....But what's this?! Whoa-ho-ho! You're on a new gameshow Casshern Cam! The Gameshow where the most emo little bitch wins the perfect grey landscape to stare off into while they examine the depths of their soul! Provided by MS Paint.
What I'm getting at is that it looks like some kind of goofy media player or watermark, one made in MS Paint at that. Why is there a Casshern logo? Does he have his own action figure too?
The camera in the original video played a major part in building the dramatic atmosphere. What is going to happen when the counter reaches zero? There isn't much battery life left so how will it end? And finally when everything is erased and they begin rebuilding and recording again, right before the battery goes out...That is some of the magic that really set the original video apart from the other FF8 videos out there. It created it's own storyline mechanic and I personally think it used it incredibly well. Yet with this video, if it wasn't for the original I would have no idea what the Casshern logo and play button are supposed to be. Then it randomly deletes everything and that's kind of it. There is no reason for the viewer to ask "What is going to happen?" because they probably don't even realize they're looking at memories or a recording.
Now let's move onto the text aspect. In the original video it made sense because it's calling back to the lines associated with the game and it's opening credit sequence. They were on screen long enough to take in and they faded out smoothly. Your attempt at recreating them did not go so well. They fade in incredibly fast and are gone in the blink of an eye. This combined with the horrible grammar and the fact that the text is dimmed left me saying "What the fuck was that?" The changing font and random text locations didn't help either. I think it's time you were introduced to the title safe area...
Beyond that the story was rather muddled. I get that Casshern and the girl have some semi-romantic sad times going on, but what does the kid have to do with it? Is that supposed to be their lovechild or something? Those scenes should have been cut out and more focus on their relationship needed to be added. The song is incredibly long and would have benefited from a song cut. The editing itself is incredibly slow even when the song picks up, but then again this was a problem that was shared with the original video too.

I can tell you really adored the original and you wanted to emulate it the best you could, but you didn't know how. I give you kudos for going against the grain and sticking with what you love by selecting a video that isn't that well known but is something you enjoy. The heart is willing but the skill isn't there yet.
Video 2
Spoiler :

+ Hilariously dark
+ Dat Miyazaki clip

- Fluctuating visual quality/effects work
- ...I honestly don't think this is your favorite video.

Original Video
Well, for one, it's Creating Something Beautiful and I love it. Also, I really need to cross "make out with siny" off my list one of these days. Beyond that, the primary reason this video was fantastic was because it took an incredibly general video with random feels and focused it. LopezAMV's original video, while it did have feels, they were all over the place and that caused it to lack that really hard hitting sentimental wave. By taking the basic idea of "something beautiful" and focusing it with a single identifiable and well loved source (in this situation it was Studio Ghibli itself as opposed to just one of their movies), it gave the concept a driving force that will even make the biggest 500 lb. Otaku sniffle.

The Remake

First off, I want to say that I found this video to be hilarious. The bit where Miyazaki shows up with the creepy ominous smile right before the rocket hits Howl is fantastic. I honestly busted up laughing out loud. While the video is incredibly pervy in the beginning it's an overall dark humor I really enjoy.
The editing itself was fine with small hiccups here and there. Occasionally, especially in the second half, things got a bit too blurred and messy which made it difficult to determine what was going on, especially in scenes where you faded back and forth between LA and anime. Also, I still say that the "hairy chest" you added to censor Asuka makes her look more like an incredibly hairy human cock. Speaking of censoring, there really is no point in watching the censored version. It's so pixelated in the second half that it's basically impossible to make out what the hell is going on. While I understand the sexual stuff being censored I'm still confused why we, as a website, still have something against extreme violence. In my opinion there is a difference between torture porn and over the top action. I still say this falls under the over the top action category but not a whole lot that can be done about it. Now, I watched the uncensored version because of this which actually still had it's pixel problems. These problems though, were not manually added by the editor by merely caused by incredibly low quality footage. A rather large chunk of the anime was very foggy and just about all of the live action footage used had macroblocking to some degree. Quality issues aside, this was still one of the best edited and most enjoyable videos this round, especially for someone like myself who can appreciate the dark humor. Now~ On to some speculation on my part...

*speculation* I sincerely don't think this was your favorite video. I think that you like this video quite a bit but it's not your favorite, which is what the theme called for. The primary reason behind this is because I honestly don't think it's possible for someone to take their favorite video and turn it into a mockery. Now, when I say a mockery, I don't mean it was malicious in any way, shape, or form but in my opinion it's very similar to me say, trying to parody Jaws (which is one of my favorite movies of all time) and turning the shark into a giant dildo that goes around raping people. Even if the end result is hilarious, I've basically taken something that I adore and ripped out every shred of what I loved about it to make something new. This all really comes back to my original argument I had posted a couple pages back because I still don't believe it's possible to keep something that you view as perfect the same but put "a creative spin" on it. Now, if you're lucky enough to have a favorite video that is incredibly broad such as Something Beautiful or Odorikuruu then you're good because all you have to do is focus the concept and you're set! But with a video that has already been focused you're either going to create an homage or you're going to draw dicks all over it (if there weren't dicks originally in the video that is). And when it comes to picking your favorite video, you can't exactly pick and choose what you want your favorite video to be unless you're a cheating dickwad. So with all that being said, I don't believe someone could take something that is their favorite and make a video like this. I know it'd make me feel like a total douchebag unless it was just a video I simply enjoyed but didn't care about so much that it was my favorite. But once more, this is just my speculation.*end speculation*
Video 3
Spoiler :
+ Lot of love for the original video

- Terribad pacing

Original Video
Now thiiiiiiis takes me back it's been a while since I've seen DivX logos and such like that :3 Old video, very simple, but plenty of feels <3

The Remake
With this video, I'm not really sure how you could have put a creative spin on it. As I stated in my speculation in Video 2, this is one of those videos that is already incredibly specific. It's a video about characters being happy and having fun with a dash of feels. There isn't really a major creative spin you could apply without just making the opposite of the video, which eliminates the remake aspect of the theme. So basically, you were screwed no matter what. Either a copycat or a video that is so different that it's basically an entirely different thing in and of itself, but it uses the same song.
Beyond that, the pacing was was all over the place. The majority of the time it just very way too slow for the song. Not a ton to say about this one. Not very good, but not miserably bad, just very meh.

EDIT: You also had some weird banding and line-lookin' issues like in that scene where long-hair Haruhi slips on the banana peel. What the hell was that?
Video 4
Spoiler :
+ Very smooth editing

- It lacks all the heart and soul the original video had

Original Video
This is probably my favorite Shin video. For one, it's not Florence + the Machine and two, there aren't horrible zooms all over the place. It's just like, raw badassness and heart with a dash of cheesy Vegas stock effects.

The Remake
One of the reasons I really adore the original is it's attention to lyrics. The majority of rap videos just pretend the lyrics aren't there and sync to the beat/vocals which leads to very bland overall videos. This video seems to pick and choose when it wants to pay attention to the lyrics and when it wants to be random action. Sadly, it tends to lean towards the random action aspect of it all. So while the video itself is rather well made it feels hollow, like any other rap song could be paired with it and it wouldn't change the video at all. This is another video that suffers from the same issue that #3 did since you can't really add too many twists to it without making it a totally different video or a comedy.
Overall good editing but no soul. :(
Video 5
Spoiler :
+ :taco:

- Half-baked Jihaku clone

Original Video
Jihaku is still one of my favorite videos of all time and it's one that I really can't imagine improving upon the original concept. Tyler was an AMAZING editor, especially when it came to capturing raw emotion, which is what this video is all about. The way the band scenes are integrated with clips so full of pain, joy, and more is still a fantastic thing that gets me emotional to this day.

The Remake
This was a video that could have used the Something Beautiful treatment. Because of the fact that it was just broad, raw emotions, focusing that on a single aspect or source would have completed the theme perfectly. However, this video not only attempts to do the same thing as the original, it even uses a decent amount of the same sources that were prominent in the original. Even an attempt to update the sources would have been nice to see but this feels rather phoned in. The editing is alright overall but the band scenes are integrated terribly. They just kind of cut back and forth and don't really add anything to the video. The editing was shaky at best and really missed that emotional impact from the original. Then the video just kind of fades out before anything can happen. :(

I do however give you a :taco: for being ballsy enough to take this on. Jihaku is a behemoth so to even consider attempting to remake it like you did was an incredibly risky move. While it sadly didn't pay off, I give you MAJOR kudos for trying.
Video 6
Spoiler :
+Fuck Yes

- You only had a week

Original Video
Fuck yeah, True Fiction. I pity anyone that does not know how fantastic and important this video is in AMV History <3

The Remake
Fuck yeah, Loli Fiction. This was a massive undertaking and the only bad thing I can think to say about it is that you didn't have enough time to finish it and do all those insane rotos. You took a badass video and kept it just as badass but with lolis. If this doesn't get first then Eake is getting castrated.
EDIT: I've got to say that so far I've been spot on about calling the themes. I was rather sad when this one wasn't "Make a video that pays homage to your favorite editor." :P I was sure that's what it was going to be. So sad~ T_T

You're welcome? :P

Also Code, suggestion for the final round. While I'm not assuming that I'll make it through or anything, I think now may be the time for a deadline extension. 2 days in between each round back to back is murder. I was sick with stress the past week and Kisanzi had to call into work he's so run down. Not only would this give the editors a bit more breathing room but it'd also help the quality of the videos considering it appears that some people still can't finish a video, even in the semifinals. I know that the last time an extension was introduced people weren't exactly happy but that's just because it was so last minute and all.

Also, I've got some ideas that were brought up in the skype chat last night to go over with you for next year. Could make Org Editor veeeery interesting.

Hmmm... Well, I will wait until we get our final 3, and I'll ask if the final 3 would like a few more days off. I'm certainly not opposed to the idea.

Interesting ideas for future orgeditors? I'm all ears anytime! |:>

Though this next Project Editor contest come wintertime should be fun too. Something totally different. :ying:

EDIT: Oh, and would anyone like a "Finals" livestream where we show all the stuff the top three has done so far and just a general recap of the whole contest? I've been thinking about it, but not sure if anyone would want that or just a text wall.
