They should really make a sticky for con noobs.

Anyways I'll be down there with my crew.

Tips:

Reg and Hotel Needs: Beyond basic transportation these are two essentials for cons. I suggest Pre reg for Akon. The lines are hectic but atleast in the Pre reg line you only have to find your name and go.

Hotel - Make your hotel reservations EARLY. The host hotel fills up quick so reserve early. Even if you end up not going you can cancel something like 48 hours before hand. Your can get a hotel nearby but this year all the nearby hotels are much more expensive. Last year we got one about a mile away and it was a hassle. I suggest getting together with other con gowers and get a hotel room that you guys can split the cost.

Food and other expenses: This is a good bulk of where your budget will go. It saves alot of money to bring food with you. There is also a nearby plaza that can also suit your food needs.

Other Expenses - This is pretty much DVDs etc that you can buy at the con. These aren't a basic need but it's nice to get souvineers.

The Con Expreience: This will depend on how many days you will be attending but there is a basic strat. that you can follow. When you first arrive get your badge. If there is a line you can wait til later but most functions at the con require a badge.

Planning: This is a HUGE thing. After you get your badge you will also get a schedule for the weekend. Check what's happening and when it's happening ahead of time. Also learn where everything is. Getting lost at a con sucks but can also be a fun experience.

Budget: A major thing that you need to keep an eye on is how much money you have. It's easy to over spend at a con. I always recommend you bring extra money. Here is how I'm budgetting this year:

BASIC NEEDS

Con badge - $32
Hotel Reservation - $466 for 3 nights (split amongst several friends can make it about $50 or so.)
Fuel Needs - $40 a fuel tank both ways ($80 split amongst those who are car pooling brings it to 10 dollars a person)
Food - Plan to spend $20+ a day if you don't bring your own food.

Since I will be there for 4 days by total basic cost is $172+

ETC

DVDs - $100+
Novelty - $20+

Since you can never predict what will happen it's always good to prepare for the worst. My estimated cost is $292. I'll have a leaway of a hundred so bringing 400 bux is a safe bet. In the end you can shave alot of money off by cutting off the ETC and bringing your own food. But if I bring 400 dollars I should be good to go.

Other than that advice, I just say enjoy it. Even though it lasts an entire weekend, don't waste your time. Make a years worth of memories that will last til the next con.

Oh and btw, this is the formula I have been following for the three years I have attended A-kon.
