I wanna say thanks to the Ushicon 2004 staff for using my first AMV in the showcase this past year (Final Fantasy VII and Adiemus)! I know it was a lot less exciting than all of the others, but I liked knowing that it was there. I hope my next one works out, too. And it'll be much more exciting, I can guarantee it! Expect an AMV on your doorstep in the coming month or two from me!

May not be there in person (can never predict where my job sends me), but hopefully a couple of videos of mine will be. And if I am in Texas, I'll make it a mission to be there.

Uploads

Post by Driftpeasant » Sat Jun 26, 2004 3:53 pm

We're working on getting a 2 Mb/sec FTP site up so ya'll can just upload the vids instead of having to deal with the hassle of burning and mailing them. Cross your fingers that it comes through (well, I am, at least. I don't know anyone else cares... :))

I'll update when/if we have it set up.

(Loud Howard voice)

I HAVE AN IDEA!

(cough)

I know Ushicon's position on not 'judging the works of fellow artists' and stuff. But, I think there's a way around it, if there is time in Ushicon's schedule:

An Iron Chef competition.

Now, these are tricky to set up...and due to scheduling, there might not be the time for it (as, if I'm not mistaken, you need 4 hours or so for the editing?) Non-AMV enthusiasts might be bored to tears at that stage. Of course, a way around this is to do all the editing off-line, in a 4-hour block, and then just have the presentations of the finished products. I don't know. See what the Ushicon peoples say, Chase, And then I recommend you look to the wisdom of the sages here on how to set one up. Then you'd need some competitors.....

Oh, by the by, I have no interest in competing in such an endeavor, but I do have a paisley suit....if I'm in Texas come Ushicon, I wouldn't mind being the Chairman.....:o

Okay, from those who've done this before, how long does one of these take? And has anyone ever MC'd one of these before to give Sousaphonist pointers? Would anyone WANT to be in it, for that matter? We're seriously considering it, but it's outside my realm of experience...

First off, I know that Greggo lives in Austin and he usually hosts this at two of the three locations I know of (Anime Weekend Atlanta and Anime Central). I do know he's somewhat trying to cooldown from all con related events, but he is certainly someone to keep in mind. You may recognize his name since he does gameshows at Ushicon (I think).

At the same time, I don't know if Iron Chef would work that well at Ushicon. I don't at all mean to bash Ushicon, but they don't seem too "amv-driven" in terms of the con. This is something only hardcore amv fans or editors can enjoy...I mean it's just two people editing for two hours while the host tries to keep everyone awake ;).

For AWA, it's *the* AMV con, so a lot of creators are obviously interested. For Fanime and Anime Central, they're fairly large cons (7000+ ppl?) and thus they can fill a 500 person room fairly easily.

I guess what I'm getting at is that for this type of event to succeed, there needs to be A) really good scheduling (i.e. not conflicting with another event to draw people away) and B) lots of good planning. People will obviously leave if the event is going badly.

In any case, good luck!

I agree that Ushicon isn't amv-oriented. So, here's the idea I had. The actual editing can be done offline, with someone competent there to dissuade cheating or what have you. I mean...I'm enthused about AMVs, but I'm not even sure I would want to sit and watch two guys edit. However, the presentation and judging is where there can be some presentation and emceeing.

Why don't you get an actual Ushicon AMV contest going...then maybe, just maybe more people may be interested in the CON itself and the Iron Chef competition :P

Well, I'm just throwing ideas out here. Something to get the Ushicon heads to realize that competition is fun...

I bet they were the ones who never got picked for teams in school because the team 'wouldn't be competitive' with them....wait....that was ME! Never mind.

I've tried talking to the Ushicon heads but nothing ever seems to sink in with those guys.

They already have it out for me for the Ushicon 1 doc -_-.

And they stick us in the smallest room possible for out Advanced AMV panels.

I've given up on them.
