Big Apple Anime Fest 2004 canceled :(

Post by LittleKefalos » Sun Apr 04, 2004 10:39 pm

The Big Apple Anime Fest for 2004 was canceled.

Damn and I was planning on getting a three day ticket this time too!

You know... I'm not anti-Republican or anything, but this is seriously the last straw... ever since Bush has been elected the Republicans have gotten way too cocky. Why do they have to come to New York City? It's not like anyone wants them here. It is so shameless taking advantage of 9/11 like that (they very easily could have done it earlier--like they usually do!)

Here's the link.

Weird.....the convention I (and several other ORGanists) went to last month in Toronto (where I live) was coincidental in time and venue with the leadership convention of the new Conservative Party of Canada. :o

But it wasn't cancelled on that account, everything went along very smoothly.

Where was Big Apple Anime Fest '04 to have been held anyway?

The time I went BAAF was being held in conjunction with AXNY. It was in Times Square at the Virgin Megastore theatre. AXNY was across the street at the Marriot.

Yeah, downtown New York does have a lack of hotel space for a big event like the RNC. Los Angeles handled the Democratic National Convetion pretty well.

Actually, that con was a lot of fun with the conservatives. ^^ One of my favourite conversations was as follows:

Random guy: So, you kids supporting the Conservatives?

*group of one cat girl, three medieval wenches, a team rocket cosplayer and random Tall Guy all pale and back up*

Cat Girl (Me): Heck no! Liberal.
Wenches: Liberal
Rocket: Green
Tall Guy: Independant.

Random Guy *laughs*: I see.... Well, you have fun then!

I love Toronto. ^^

Classic.

As far as the RNC, yeah, it's definately a cheap move to push the convention right before 9/11, but c'est la vie. If you're at all anti-Bush, you should go to the anti-RNC protests. Gonna be massive, and I wish I could be there =)

Yeah the protest, lot's of fun. There's no way I'm going to go to the protest... maybe from a distance. Don't want to get arrested or injured and stuff...plus I have better things to do. I'm going to protest with my vote. Basically for any of the choices where I don't know the people I'm just going to vote democrat (if there's any third parties might choose some of them) whereas usually I wouldn't vote if I didn't know anything about them (it is impossible to find information on these low level positions, and I know cause I've looked... it's such shame).

And yes I am so anti-Bush (he hasn't done anything good, can anyone think of anything that he didn't screw up in some way?)... what baffles me is why so many republicans back him--I guess they think they can control him from hijacking the party. If the republican party had any sense they'd get John McCain to be the nominee... oh well their loss.

I think the reason that BAAF canceled is because there's really a lot of republicans comming to New York and they're shutting down entire hotels and stuff for their access only... they also might be afraid that it could get violent (hopefully not), but it so could... New York is not exactly the most republican friendly place... then again (and no offence to you L.A. peeps) we don't go around rioting for every darn thing.

I wish BAAF was still on, but on well. Nothing we can do about it. I'm still voting for Bush come November. So are a bunch of my firends.

In my opinion he did not screw up the handling of 9/11.

Well, he didn't sell weapons to China, Iran, Iraq, or other third world hellholes which right there makes him a better president than we've had for 20 years.

Regardless of that, politics probably isn't something that should be on the org, it's WAY to easy for it to fall into petty bickering and trolling. Besides, the President has nothing to do with amvs.

ok this is a bit off topic, but just to clarify...

the reason he didn't do any of these things is because he wasn't president at the time he was a rich nobody.

but that's not why I'm against Bush I believe his domestic policy is horrible and not even "Republican" (he's trying to forcibly change the Republican party allowing the hard right wingers to write social policy)--but even the far right disagrees with much of his economic policy as he cuts taxes, yet writes legislation that is "big government" shifting the burden unfairly onto future generations, not to mention the fact that he is very disingenuous in much of the legislation he gets passed.

Bush may have not "screwed up" September 11th, but he didn't do a whole lot to prevent it... this doesn't make it his fault, but he makes it seem as if another president (a democrat) would have led the country into ruin when this is obviously faulty logic (another leader probably would have done better, but again this is my opinion... of course taking a month long vacation your first year in office is not common among presidents I believe).

But more importantly than even all this, Bush does have to do with this specific topic because it is his fault that the convention is being held in New York City...it's a political ploy... and as a result of his influence and decisions that the BAAF decided to cancel. They could have had the convention entirely in August (I think sometimes they even did it in July--not sure) like they usually do, but they decided to run it closer to September 11 purely for political gain by using faulty symbolism (have you ever been to New York? Seriously a vast majority either dislike Bush, or hate him with a passion--and this is not only because Bush and Pataki are screwing New York out of its well deserved funding).

But even more importantly than that if you notice my last post was at the beginning of April.... so its not as if I was treating this post as a political platform (though quite frankly I'm shocked that Republicans support Bush... I was never a Bush fan, but even I gave Bush the benefit of the doubt after September 11th, but he used it to push his own agenda [and so obviously too] such that by now I think he's clearly the worst leader we ever had)

I'm sorry if I offended any Bush fans, and sorry again for going off topic... I was just frustrated that New York City was being used and that as a result that BAFTA was canceled.
