You own the edits. Doesn't mean a whole lot if you're stealing the source material though. For instance, I can go out to a public park and take pictures of anything in the park and then sell my photos, i own the copyright to those photos (it would be smart to actually register them though). If I went to a private location and started shooting pictures without permission, chances are, even though my photos are copyrighted by default, i wouldn't be able to sell them or distribute. That's a pretty loose example but i hope it gets the point across.Knowname wrote:than... how does he own said copyright?? Just because they are young doesnt mean they are stupid, and amvs are officially illegal regardless of where they got clips from, programs from, etc. I could buy after effects, buy anime on dvd, rip it , buy freaking music off itunes...but shoving them together into any kind of combo and putting it on the internet is NOT legal and probably wont be legal until many years from now.Knowname wrote:than... how does he own said copyright?? WHICH IS WHEN ORG WILL PARTEH

godix wrote:Like this one amv. It was all like woosh, zoom with effects. And I was all like whoa awesome. Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.

well, shoving them into any kind of combo isn't really illegal... the process at least. the illegal part comes when you rip the footage (breaking DRM) and even more important, distribution. Making amvs isn't all that unlawful, it's the distribution of them that is.

The recent DMCA law that passed lets us actually rip footage legally. The issue is now music...imo artists will either get so tightly focused on keeping their music from being downloaded that the copyright laws...or the interwebz...just get shut down.Pwolf wrote:the illegal part comes when you rip the footage (breaking DRM) and even more important, distribution.
OR artists will just let it go and we can make amvs legally. At least thats how i see it going down in the next several years :l
Yeah..but i mean...i dont charge people to watch my stuff and most of the time it promotes the music/anime. I didnt start listening to Regina until i saw a really well done amv with her music. I owe it to that amv for promoting her work, but because of copyright on youtube...it might get taken down at some point. :/ Thats one of the main reasons why i really like org...theres no videos that are taken down for unnecessary reasons.Making amvs isn't all that unlawful, it's the distribution of them that is.
