Would it be possible to switch it over onto the right hand column. Right now its well below the fold, and there's not a lot going on in the right hand column, at least on the main page.

This. There's a lot of room on the right column that isn't being used for anything.

An IRC/Store button would definately make it a lot easier for people to find out that we have an IRC chat and a store with sweet merch.

I just noticed that the twitter stream is now on the right, but it's outside of the container (when you're logged in and go to the main page). Put a "clear:both;" on the p tag above it and that should fix it.
