Serious anime suggestion ?

Post by RatQuiRit » Sat Jun 21, 2008 10:50 am

I'd like to start a new anime series but I can't find something that suits me.
As stated in the thread name, I'm searching for something serious, the plot doesn't matter actually, I just don't want to witness childish humour as in Gurren Lagann or Eureka Seven (and I'm sure you could find even worse).
so far, I enjoyed RahXephon a lot, I found nothing to complain about this series.
I also watched Hellsing some time ago, maybe I wouldn't be able to enjoy it now but Alucard has so much style I enjoyed it a lot back then :p
Oh, and I found Kimiga Nozomu Eien (might have spelled it wrong) kinda cool but a bit too whiney sometimes.

Do you have some animes to suggest that I might enjoy ?

Ergo Proxy is pretty darn serious overall, if you haven't already seen it. It's one that I'd suggest to anyone, too.

Just happens to be the first thing that came to my mind.

I started Ergo proxy, I like the drawings (don't know how you call it...the graphical aspect) a lot and I think I might enjoy it even if after the first episode you never know if the plot's gonna be good
I also watched Terra e a bit, thanks for the suggestions

Do you have other ideas in mind ? I have a lot of time to kill !

If you want ultra serious with really "heavy" themes, try "wolfs rain"

If you a phisophical serious that really makes you think, with slightly depressing under tones, try "Kino's journey"

If you want a drama suspense serious, try "death note"

If you want an drama, depressing, macabe, makes-you-turn-emo-go-sit-in-a-corner-and-rethink-your-life serious, try "grave of the fireflys"

If you want reeeally complicated political intrigue\action serious, try "Ghost in the shell, stand alone complex"; And it's sequel "2nd Gig"

If you want omg, wtf just happend, I need to rewatch that to find out what happend argh serious, try Neon Genisis Evangelion. (what RahXephon is loosely[some consider an imatation] based off of)

Or paranoia agent (haven't seen it, but judging from what I've heard..)

And for the most part, most of these of some action at least somewhere.

Umm, if you don't mind a lack of action, the I also enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain.

Let's see, for more action, I also enjoyed Claymore and Black Lagoon. They didn't really have any childish humor, from what I can recall.

Oh, and check out Mnemosyne. It's a 6 episode OVA. From what I've seen of it so far, it's quite good. (I've seen 2 episodes thus far.) It's a 6 episode OVA; the last episode airs next month I believe.

You might also like the movie Sword of the Stranger.

That's all I can think of atm, after vivaldiscool's nice list. If I come up with something else, I'll post it.

Some suggestions:

Mecha:
Fafner: Dead Agressor
Full metal Panic TSR <---was very serious compare to the previous 2 series.
Sokou no Strain
Argentosoma <-- the most depressing anime I have ever watched, it's not bad it's just uggh depressing.
Macross Plus, Macross Zero and of course Macross Frontier < --all deffinately worth a watch.
Gasaraki

Ancient japan:
Samurai X the OVA's (not the ruroni Kenshin TV series it had a lot of stupid stuff in it)
Ninja scroll(original movie)
Princess Mononoke
Nazca <-- kinda ancient incan stuff but meh

semi-futuristic:Armitage III (both movies)
Darker Than Black
Spriggan (love this movie)
Karas
S-Cry-ed <-- this is a very enjoyable series it treads a very thin line between stupid comedy and deadly serious. I personally hate stupid comedy and found this one quite good.

other:
Black Blood Brothers <---only had about 20% stupid comedy unlike Trinity blood which ends up being 80% stupid comedy, so I'd suggest BBB over it anyday - it's about vampires btw.
Vampire Night <-- very slow
new banzors in the making :p

I haven't seen any of those to be honest hast, but I'm like, 95% sure that's almost the polar opposite of what she wanted.

Mind you. Fuko is the ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY truely comedic character in the series.

But fine. You want serious?
