Naruto never sounds serious when he is supposed to be

Post by x_rex30 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:50 pm

That is my main problem.. he sounds too whiny when he gets serious about anything in the english version.

I'm sick of hearing this..

"OMG HE IS SUPPOSE TO SOUND ANNOYING!!!"

Shut the hell up! Is he suppose to sound annoying at ALL TIMES!? That's the way its not suppose to be. Naruto is suppose to sound cool when he is being serrious.. that what grabs me about the show in the first place. When he is talking serious about anything, it's suppose to grab the viewer and it's believable when you see characters in the anime take him seriously. Now he doesn't sound cool in the english version, doesn't sound convincing, and above all when he gets serious, he ONLY sounds like an annoying brat! To hell with the dub I say. All you overly optimistic people about the dub are on crack to think Naruto does justice to the original sounding one. The thing that is suppose to be the most captivating thing about the show is the determination and very strong feelings Naruto shares is suppose to be one of the main key factors to attract the audience. In the english version he now sounds nothing but like a whiny boy no matter what it seems when something serious is going on in the series.

So anyone have any counter argument or there thoughts on this. Just want to know what others think about this concept. Maybe I'm wrong.. I don't know but I thought it would make for a good topic since that to me is the key factor in Naruto. And believe me(damn that crappy sounding english version of naruto) If I first checked it out in english first I probably wouldn't have become a fan.. that is for sure. :?

Kids can read or should be able to. Subtitles on anime are one of the best ways to a) practice reading b) force quick reading and c) become used to and able to detect tones and nuances in a language.

Kids might even be able to pick up on japanese at the same time.

But a lot of kids don't like reading, they're watching TV so they don't have to read. Subs would undoubtedly lower the viewer count as opposed to raise it, so why would anyone do that? If people don't like the english voice, watch it subbed. There are very few instances nowadays where you have to choose. Simply don't watch the dub. Problem solved. Read manga, nobody ever complains about annoying manga voices.

Wow how odd.. I already do that. I avoid the dub.

I guess you could ignore every thing I said because of these witty remarks.. so how bout this then.

What are your feelings on the dub of naruto? I mainly wanna see if there is anything convincing really for me to watch it. I've seen about ten of the dub episodes.. i wonder if it's getting better and so forth.

Damn.. so far I know everyone who has posted is not a fan of the series. I'm not asking what I should do.. like.. "Watch the sub." umm well duh shut up.. that concept didn't strike me.

Can we talk somewhat about the dub.. is there no direction of this topic.. can there be any sort of constructive intellectual form of discussion here that wouldn't be harmful..

I'm actually a fan of Naruto, I have no cable, so I read manga. I have seen the anime a few times though (both subbed and dubbed), and his voice doesn't bother me, shocking, I know. I don't love it, but to me, it's fitting. Not because, 'oh it's supposed to be annoying' or anything like that, I'm just not annoyed by it. So myu arguement is npot purely that, if you don't like the dub, don't watch it. It's that the dub isn't the apocolypse like everyone seems to make it out to be. My real solution is read manga, why? I like manga. Few anime beat their manga counterparts. I don't have to deal with all the 'terrible' TV dubs, because I have no cable, I buy all my anime. As a result, I don't really sympathize with people who complain about getting to watch tens of different animes for the price of one or two discs of anime every month.
