I wonder how much the producers of evangelion paid Frank sinatra's family for the rights to "fly me to the moon"?

Anyway, Kajino Rei, Frank Sinatra did the original hit version of Fly Me To The Moon. Although I doubt he actually wrote it, so I don't know if he himself would own the rights or not. But regardless, many many people have covered it in the past, my assumption would be that Evangelion never bought the rights to Fly Me To The Moon. They probably just negotiated a royalty kind of thing, or something of that sort. Unless FMTTM is already public domain, inwhich they wouldn't have to pay anything.

Actually no matter WHO you go threw, the family gets money.

And no, frank sinatra will never be public domain, it's much like bach, someone owns the rights to his music, you can't just use it.

Since Disney is frothing at the mouth at the idea that Mickey Mouse would become public domain after the copyright on Walt's work expires, copyright keeps getting extended. At the current rate, it's more or less eternal.

Can you imagin' how many lawyers they'll have writing papers the day that it becomes "public domain" if you can hit the time between the secound they reknew it and the secound it's free... Man you'd be so damn rich.

Copyright can't be renewed. It extends a certain period beyond the death of the original creator. Whenever the number of years since Walt's death approaches that period, Disney has their congressmen extended the copyright period. With Disney buying these laws, copyright effectively extends forever. At some point someone will say that it's ludacris, but don't hold your breath.

I know that Fly Me to the Moon is one of my favorite songs of all time, Ol' Blue Eyes is timeless. He died in 1998 at his 82 years of age. Reports say that Tina and her two siblings own Reprise Records, which controls the rights to all Sinatra's recordings made between 1960 and 1988.
So you guys decide since I don't know in what year FMTTM was recorded nor what exact year Gainax produced Eva.
