war anime

Post by bum » Sat May 22, 2004 10:25 am

hey, could anyone please tell me of any good war anime ? ive got grave of the fireflies, and Now and Then Here and There (finished watching it tonight, awsome series). both amazing anime, both a reflection of whats allways bein wrong in the world. anyway, does anyone know of any other similar anime titles ? (stuff by studio ghibli would be awsome :D ). oh and, yeah i know gundam wing is about war, but it focuses too much on the politics of war for what im looking for (granted, it is a great anime)

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

The anime style is a lot like Grave of the Fireflies in that it's pretty realistic, but the anime itself shows a fictional, political war (with rival police and social unrest) rather than a historical one. Really worth looking into and I believe that it's a bit easier to find nowadays. I bought the collector's edition when it came out because the soundtrack's fantastic, but there should be cheaper editions now. Highly recommended.

There's a pretty strong war theme in Saishu Heiki Kanojo.

yeah but, i want something that show's the real side of war, something which concentrates on the pain, despare and dim light of hope of people through war, rather than bloody action
