You can give me the $300, and let me buy the stuff for you.

j/k
Here's some titles you could consider:
Millenium Actress
Cowboy Bebop (also the movie)
RahXephon
X TV (personal favorite )
 )
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Grave of the Fireflies (absolutely depressing )
 )
Tokyo Godfathers
Trigun
Last Exile
practically any anime made by Miyazaki
...that's all I could think up of
Anyways, what type of anime do you like? That way we could shorten up the list.

Most the stuff you listed their homes. I like everything from Action to Scary to Good Ol' Kiddie Anime and everything few and far between.
I did plan to buy most of what you have listed, it just that I wanted to know what is the best that is not forced marketed and not on the "Pop List". I would like to know the unsung heros of Anime, the best of the best. With 300 bucks, and mabey more after I buy my car.. I can make quite a collection.

If you're into the drama, Crest of the Stars and sequels are excellent.
If you're cyberpunky, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040. (there's a reason 'bubblegum' has come to mean 'cyberpunky' is some circles)
For romance, Ah! My Goddess, OVAs and movie, are excellent.
There's Full Metal Panic, for a good mix of action, romance, and humor. With a dark plot.
If you want dark and a little confusing, go for Witch Hunter Robin.
If you want lot of action, with an engaging plot, go for Scryed.
Note that WHR isn't completely out yet, and I'm not sure about Scryed.

If you want off the beaten path, here's where to go:
Anything associated with either Mamoru Oshii or yoshitori ABe. Oshii works to look out for would include Angel's Egg (have to be imported), Ghost In The Shell, Avalon, Patlabor 2, maybe some Patlabor TV to get a feel for the characters in that, and definitely Jin-Roh. For ABe Serial Experiments: Lain is ofcourse required, and any among NieA_7, Haibane Renmei, and Texhnolyze that you can pick up. The first three of these are probably out boxed already; Texhnolyze is just coming out now (first DVD == absolutely awesome).
Other stuff: Kino's Journey and Master Keaton, two drastically different series (in terms of animation style, plot, topics, etc) with surprisingly similar themes, will both be finishing this summer; several DVDs are already out. Initial D is heavily marketed but worth a look (the prod values are a little uneven). You may have a hard time getting ahold of Silent Service, but even though it cuts off before the manga gets really interesting, there has been little more politically insightful animated in Japan (the Akira manga could have been adapted into a mindblowing series, but the movie, as good as it is, unfortunately failed at it).
The Maison Ikkoku box sets are also coming out now; there's 96 eps of this show but it's worth it. Marmalade Boy will also be coming out in 18-ep miniboxes starting like next week; very shoujo but also a good romance hit.
To look out for in the future, if you don't drop your cash all in one place: Hajime no Ippo/Fighting Spirit, fifteen discs of pure boxing greatness that I can't wait to preorder, and the box release of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which has too much space between volumes and too little actual anime per price point as it stands.
This would probably run you significantly more than $300, but hey, it's ideas, and it's not like you're not ever going to buy anime after this.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
