His And Her-Text important?

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Tue Mar 30, 2004 11:03 pm

So I just finished His and hers, and there is a lot of text in it, but the version I was watching did not translate it for me. is there anything that I am missing at all, I mean, some episodes have a lot of text in them, and I feel that I am missing quite a bit. Am I?

well, I'm watching it right now, and the titles ARE handy, but about 80% of them say what they say in speech, anyway...

I watch it with titles on most of the time, though.

Speaking of which, I saw episode 19 just last night for the first time... and I'm not quite sure who to consult on the state of my mental health afterwards

Ahhhh, the budget episode. :D

After I saw that episode, I had a very strong sense of "only GAiNAX could get away with a stunt like that"... but they did actually manage to make it work.

Of course, some say that using lined paper is symbolic... I just say they were running out of money and making no bones about it. :P

But yeah, what Otohiko said, a lot of the on-screen text is merely repeating what a character's saying... but I'd watch it with titles anyway, so that you don't miss the rest of it, like when you've got a screen of nothing but plain black text on white.

To be honest, even if this were the only reason, KareKano would already be my favorite anime:

I've never seen another anime that manages to be so visually inconsistent. I mean that in a good way (it's good for me, anyways). I can't find a segment of over 30 seconds where it stays with the same style and medium...

I know it's cheap, that episode, but the sheer off-beatness and insanity of the content, added to the art... and then burning it all afterwards... BACKWARDS!!!!

That was the best thing I've seen in a long freaking time.

As of this week, this is my favorite anime evar!

Yeah, well, I have quickly decided that gainax is a super power, which is why I am trying to get my hands on anything else they have produced. Like Wings...which is not available on Amazon.com even, disappointing...

I took a big chance getting this series, because I had never seen a single episode, only a couple of videos and a preview on some DVDs But Netflix doesn't offer it (Nothing by rightstuf infact...) so I just went out and bought it. I absolutely love it, it's really awesome.

You know what - x2!

Just last week, same story for me, pretty much (I nabbed the box at a con).

I was expecting it to be good...

...and it turned out just... incredibly good. Blew every expectation I had of it away!

Screencaps or promos just don't do this one justice. Only seeing it does

BTW, my precious Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou is more commonly know as and refered to as Kare Kano.

Or, in English, His and Her Circumstances. Not the greatest title ever, but it's better than His and Hers, IMHO.

Unlike TRSI, Tokyopop had enough good sense to meld the two names for the manga, hence:

kare kano
his and her circumstances

:P

I used to be an original-name nazi, but no longer. So long as I can figure out what show people are talking about

I've known all the possible names for the show for years, just haven't seen it until last week...

I don't know, some how I feel that If I am using to japanese title I'm submitting to the weirdos at my anime club who are blonde bald guys but still enjoy bowing and speaking in japanese...which kinda bothers me. it's like, "Let me draw attention to my bald spot while at the some time speaking in a language you cannot understand but a few words of..."

So that's my discriminatory comment for the day.
