Oy, didn't you hear of a little thing called a box set? Only 200 for me if you include the movies.
Oh well, I personally like the manga, it's what got me onto the anime. The only downside is it's expensive, but I'd say it's worth it. I have the first 3 volumes.
I'm still debating about the director's cut myself =/

I haven't personally seen the Director's Cut, but I've heard tell it has extra stuff not put in the series for budget or whatever reasons that helps the ending flow better. So from a viewer standpoint you get to see the series ending more along the lines of how the director wanted to end it.
And from a vidder standpoint, more footage to choose from for the making of the vids, with the music and the cutting and the GLAYVIN!

that doesn't help whether he should buy them or not... doesn't help me either for that matter, heh heh, but i'm not gonna get it anyway, unless i feel the urge to use those 5 minutes of extra footage and my video can't survive without it, but i was wondering if maybe the commentaries were worth the money, plus the little chat they have about the live-action movieJonathan02us wrote:WOW .. ive seen so many of these that if i had a nickle for every thread like this, i would be rich. Sorry Bum ... dont take it personaly ...
(no people, it's not a preview, just a chat and maybe some basic eva concept designs)
i definately urge you to buy the eva manga though, it's awesome, it has all that the series has (minus 5 angels though) plus extra stuff (probably to make up for the loss of 5 angels

to me, the manga seems more like normal anime than the anime series...

OH YEEEEAH
before i forget, make sure to get the Special Collector's Editions
trust me, it's about the same price if i remember correctly, but instead of the art work being flipped so we can read it left to right like we read, they keep the artwork in it's original right to left format, trust me, this is a good thing
if you've read Shonen Jump Monthly in the US, then you already know what it's like and how it's better
it only takes a few pages to get used to, after that, you'll be reading it like you've done it all ur life
if you don't care whether or not it's flipped, then go ahead and get the normal versions, but speaking the side of an artist myself, i don't like it when my artwork is flipped for some one
and the text is still translated, and the actual words still read left to right, you just choose the frames from the traditional japanese right to left

and if that doesn't convince you, think about it, this is a japanese thing, it's manga, so if they show Nerv's symbol, it will say 'Nerv', but if we flip it to match our left to right style, it will read 'vreN'.. actual, the letters would even be reversed, so it's just stupid imo to flip the pages when people can easily get used to reading the opposite way
plus, the best part of the special editions is that at the end of the volumes, they have a TON of info on the series and tell about pretty much every reference found in eva, they also explain everything you need to know about the show, complete with references to the anime (which is the original story) it's like having a commentary section
i'm gonna stop before i get hyper and start flying all over the room and crashing into the walls

thing is i can get the normal edition for $15 while the special edition is $30 (so itl end up costing me more than the dvd's). ive read one of the manga's and they seem to make big cuts on the action scene's, which sucks realy because, while breif, the action scene's in eva we're prety amazing and often very dramaticDaio Kaji wrote: OH YEEEEAH

yeah, and besides, although eva has kule action, that's not what makes the series good, spending more time on the characters is imo a good thing
30 bucks eh?.... that's odd, i get them for 15.95... that's the set price, it says so on the back of the book, i think they're ripping u off, where did you go? i get mine at Borders btw
u try shopping around, Replay stores (suncoast/sam goody) often have manga... well suncoast does, i don't think sam goody does, they're mostly music, so you could also try there if there is one near you
and if drama is what your going for, don't worry, manga is naturally more dramatic than anime is normally anyway, think about it, in anime, you might get distracted by bad dubbing or the scenes might move too fast, but if ur reading the manga, the characters sound just as good as you want them to sound, and you can look at a scene for as long or as short as you want and add your own sound fx
well, that's the good side to manga... i haven't found any bad sides, if any one has a comment about the down side to manga, please let me know, unless the only downside is that you have to actually read it, but ppl watch subbed anime right? so this is still easier, the text doesn't go away before you finish reading it, heh heh

well, emotion just gets into you alot more with the anime, im not gona get into an argument about this (because i cant be bothered writing whole posts that take up the whole screen right now), but thats just the way it is to most people. and the dub in eva is prety good anyway (way beter than the jap dub)
