Why?

Post by billy_wires » Fri Sep 26, 2003 4:42 pm

First thing, I am like one of the 2 DBZ fans left on the internet. That aside, I ask why because I was just watching the English dub of DBZ (I am a fan of the Japanese version) on Cartoon Network, and I never thought it could be so watered-down. I know this is an unanswerable question, but I ask it anyway.

Bad news. I just killed the other guy, so you're the last. :(

Anyway. What's the question exactly?

The question you are trying to ask is are there any die-hard fans left. I mean shure I love dbz and alll but most of the people who say they dont like it are just bored with it. Seriously after watching reruns for years now it is predictable. I CAN SAY THERE LINES PERFECTLY!!! There is no sanity left!!!
Life is what you make it.
So I make it a party!

Well of course people are bored with it.
Spend 5 eps powering up, then 20 eps fighting, then spout out some bs like "I wasn't fighting with my full power", go power up for another 5 episodes, fight again... blah blah blah...

The battle of Goku vs. Frieza was the LONGEST and the worst. Heck, Goku made it to become a super saiyen and still gets beaten up!

So you're asking why it was so watered down?

Well, the first two seasons are such because they aired on WB at about 7:00 AM, the before school timeslot. The later seasons, which were Cartoon Network exclusive, are for several reasons.
1) It's Toonami. It's target demographic isn't the 16+ crowd. It's an after-school block that a lot of younger kids watch (and a good amount of not-so-younger people).
2) Funimation may be partly to blame. It's been a long time since I've read the interview with Gen Fukunga that had some people rather miffed. I think that was back when Planet Namek still existed.

So, basically, it was stuck in the wrong time-slots, on the wrong places. Feel free to call America's 'overprotection' of it's youth stupid now. That's what a lot of people do.

For the record, I'm still a fan of DBZ, despite how much I make fun it. It still has some good nostalgia value to it.

 I forgot to say. I wanted to ask why they put it on Toonami, but still had the time to make an uncut version in English. By the way, what is that like, I have yet to see it...

The english uncut dub was most likely made first, and then edited to target a younger crowd, just how it is. If you really want to watch dbz many suggest watching the subs, but even better then that is sparing yourself from all the filler and reading the manga, and even better yet! Just ignore it :)
