I'm a sub fan, myself. You get a bit more of an insight into the creator because the translation is closer since they don't have to meet lip sync. Mind you I've come across some pretty decent dubs (but there are still some atrocious ones).

yeah, i watch both. For Example, anything with Dave Lucas(AKA Steve Blum...or the other way around) i watch dubbed, other then that i watch whatever sounds better. Like Excel....NEVER watch it dubbed, you might end up killing yourself...seriously. But the japanese dub is great so yeah --; GTO, has dave lucas in it for one, but also the japanese one just doesnt seem to fit the characters very well. I guess i just cant see some skinny guy with a girly sounding high pitched voice playing onizuka's part --;

Dubs are good sometimes, and so are subs, but I kind of prefer the dubs, cause that way I'm not spending my time reading subtitles, instead I'm acutally watching the anime, and not missing anything. I don't know how many times I missed something due to me reading subtitles... even though I must admit that the japanese voice acting is sometimes better than the dubs, cause they put more feeling in it. But the subtitles are also plagued with grammatical errors alot of the time, so it becomes alittle hard to read at points.
I guess I should say something witty here right...? Too bad... :P

Yep, and the veterans [people who SHOULD be fluent in Japanese... :p] seem to claim that subs are better due to "closer translation"... I don't give a care about translation if it's a comedy anime with a "cultural joke" that I just don't get. Excel Saga comes to mind. I saw that whole thing twice. Once without the cultural reference subtitles, and once WITH the subtitles. After hearing it dubbed, it just didn't matter to me. A joke is SOOO DUMB if you don't get it right away...

It's a sad joke really... Especially since the majority of comedy dubs I listen to a FAR SUPERIOR to their subtitled counterparts. [especially when the joke has to be "explained" in 3 phrases or less with subtitles on another part of the tv screen...]

Heh, you can't put "emotion" into text. It no possible... If only the companies of ADV, Pioneer, Bandai Visual, Viz Video, and Media Blasters combined dubbing forces... [ooh the humanity!! ^_^]

I prefer subs, but that's probably because here in our small country we are used to watching everything subtitled. I can still remember how shocked people were when a channel once tried to dub an American soap opera. :?
