Smilebit to develop game based on manga/anime series
Sega has announced today at their GameJam event in Tokyo that Yasuhiro Naito's (the artist prefers his surname to be "Nightow", though) popular manga/anime series "TRIGUN" will be realized in video game form from developer Smilebit. Smilebit has been responsible for titles like the Jet Set/Grind Radio series, and Gunvalkyrie.
The title will be coming about as a result of RED Company, producer of the Sakura Taisen series, becoming a part of Sega Group. This turn of events was also announced today at GameJam. RED will produce three games for Sega, including TRIGUN. TRIGUN is set to take advantage of Sega's network technology, and will feature a presentation technique called "Manga Dimension". Unfortunately, no platform for the game has been announced.
The other titles to be produced by RED and announced at the event included GunGrave, a shooting game for the PlayStation 2, and "Magun Keppuuroku", a fighting game featuring the use of weapons. Like TRIGUN, GunGrave will also be developed by Smilebit, and will feature character designs by Nightow-san, and mechanical designs by Sakura Taisen/"Ah My Goddess" artist, Kousuke Fujishima. So you know the art direction in the game will awesome. Very little information is known about Magun Keppuuroku, other than the fact that a "surprise artist" is set to be part of its development.
We'll have more GameJam announcements as they happen, but for now let me relish the warm and tingly feelings that are still lingering in my body after hearing about a TRIGUN game becoming reality.

This is obviously either bad or good news... I mean we all know sakura rocked like hell. but. what I'm worried about is if this'll be like Gun Grave.
Hopefully Smilebit learned something from panzer dragoon on how to make a good series better, and not FUCK IT UP.
Speaking of our wonderful gungrave, Heres more news on the action shooter SEQUEL.

Gungrave OD announced
News
A sequel to the stylized shooter is coming to the PlayStation 2.
According to the latest issue of Dorimaga magazine, Red Entertainment has announced Gungrave OD for the PlayStation 2. The series' main character will return in the new game with a new mechanical coffin and costume. Two new characters are known at the current time--a man named Rocket Billy Red Cadillac who wears a red costume and carries a guitar, and a man named Kabane Juuji who wears a quilted coat over a black costume, with a flame burning over his right shoulder and two gun-swords as weapons.
According to the series producer Toru Kubo, the original Gungrave was aimed for playability in a short time span, but some players felt that the game lacked depth. As such, Gungrave OD will feature more replay value than its predecessors. The stage maps will be larger as well. The title's "OD" is an abbreviation for "overdose," and it is meant to describe the game's increase in extreme scenes, player actions, destructible objects, and special effects, among other things. Yasuhiro Nightow, the author of the manga and anime series Trigun, will once again handle the character designs. Kousuke Fujishima, the author of the manga and anime series Ah! My Goddess, will be participating again in the development as well.
Gungrave OD is currently 20-percent complete, and it is scheduled for release in spring 2004 in Japan. An anime based on Gungrave and produced by Studio Madhouse is scheduled to begin airing in Japan in October

My thoughts on this? Gungrave 1 was good.. but it wasnt near the quaility it should have been, so unless I see progress at the next E3 I wouldnt hold your breath.
