Spriggan is good. You can take Spriggan. It's a solid action ride and is great on DVD. I don't know what others think, but I thoroughly enjoyed Spriggan.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

My favorites (in order, I swear to God I've already made a post like this...I wish I could find it).dwb wrote:This is prob a type of necropost but oh well. Its all most pay day any recomendations? (disclaimer: as I have stated in other threads, I haven't seen that much anime since Bebop (1999), and am therefore unfamiliar with titles like X TV, Rah Xephon, Angelic Layer, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing and so on. Feel free to recommend them and explain..I'd like to know too

TV Series (require more time and money since typically 26 episdosdes)
1) Vision of Escaflowne - a epic fantasy (swords & dragons) story about a girl named Hitomi who is transported to another world (Gaea) that is at war. It has just about every genre and I don't know many people that dislike it. It has drama, romance, comedy (a bit), action, mecha (rawr), fantasy and so on. That's the main reason it appeals to so many people...so many different things people can like. I highly recommend it. Great and epic stori and good characters. Oh also the art is top-notch (until Bebop showed up) and the music is some of the best (Yoko Kanno...orchestral music. Very beautiful).
2) Neon Genesis Evangelion - At first appears to be a typical boy meets mecha story, but (IMO) turns into a very complex story that in reality is just about well...us. Probably some of the best characters since they are just exaggerations of traits we possess and the ending (IMO) is very uplifting and meaningful. Oh and even if you don't like the "story"/meaning part...almost everyone likes the mecha fights and action. Be warned though...near the end it gets quite confusing (feel free to ask questions here), but in the end very rewarding (IMO).
3) Rurouni Kenshin - A samurai anime set in the Meiji Era of Japan (peaceful time...1860's). Kenshin is a wanderer who goes around protecting people with a reverse blade (it's blunt). He has sworn not to kill again, having killed many to bring about this peace (he was an assassin). Most like it for it's action and fights, but at the same time, the story (in particular the Kyoto Arc episodes 28 - 62) is also amazing and quite epic. And on top of that, has some really well developed characters (and to me..villains..their motivations, etc.). I suggest skipping discs 4 and 5 since they weren't part of the *real* manga (it is based on). Discs 1 - 3 and 6 - 14 are the *real* story (meaning avoid after 15 too since it is just filler and IMO bad).
4) Cowboy Bebop - An episodic anime about bounty hunters...hunting bounties. Not as stupid as it sounds. I was initially turned off by the episodic part since well...I like large, continual stories, but Bebop does it *so* well that I can't deny it's greatness. Probably one of the best in animation quality and up there in Music as well (again Yoko Kanno...jazz this time).
Since I'm tired of writing so much...not as much descriptions (also these are the top ones I recommend so...wanted to write).
5) Ah! My Goddess - A short (5 episode) romantic comedy. Might not be your thing, but if it is...very sweet, heartwarming and funny :0.
6) Berserk - Very violent, medieval-type anime. Ending is awesome!
7) Record of the Lodoss Wars OVA - 13 episode OVA. Medieval/Fantasy type anime sort of like D&D (if you ever played). Still entertaining.
8 ) Now and Then, Here and There - very sad anime, but worth watching. Basically about a war-torn planet and well...the sadness of war.
9) His and Her Circumstances - Romantic Comedy set in HS. Good characters.
10) Initial D - I shit you not...a racing anime. Surprisingly very enjoyable.
Movies (not in order...just naming randomly)
-Laputa
-Naussicaa
-Princess Mononoke
-Porco Rosso
-Akira
-Ghost in the Shell (meh)
-Metropolis (I already see the flames for this one)
-Grave of the Fireflies - probably the saddest thing I've ever seen. One of Ebert's top war movies of all time (no joke).
-Transformers the Movie (why not?)
I'm fairly sure that *most* people in the community will agree that these shows are all pretty solid (for the most part). I do predict the Mr.Oni "Eva sucks" post though

Hope this helps...get cracking.

One of the most comprehensive and agreeable recommendation posts around, great stuff dwchang.
As a personal addition, I'd add Love Hina on that list and - ah - just right. I think you have a full range of recommendations here.

Thanks! Yeah Love Hina is on my list (along with 15 other titles) of things I need to watch. I have started though...as you can see with the addition of "Now and Then, Here and There." Wow, now that you mention it...a lot of those animes are different...I guess I do have a full-range or something.Otohiko wrote:One of the most comprehensive and agreeable recommendation posts around, great stuff dwchang.![]()

Hopefully dwb will find something he/she will like in there. I'm imagine they would.
As for Spriggan. It's a good *action* movie. Great animation, but at the same time not that much in terms of plot or reviewability. Then again...like I said it was an action movie and it did it's job fairly well. I can't say enough...GREAT animation.
