Rayearth series vs the OVAs
I saw the Rayearth OVAs in my local best buy for $17.99. I thought about buying it, but I curious how it compares to the series. Are the OVAs any better or worse than the series, or are they both about the same?

I personally didn't care for the OVAs as much as the series. Of course, I didn't finish watching the OVAs, so it is possible that the later episodes may have been better. However, after watching the first volume, I just didn't have the motivation to sit through two more that are possibly just like it.

The OVAs are a lot more serious and darker than the TV series. They feel more like some sort of epic Mecha anime than a the occasionally frivolous fantasy anime that was the TV series. For the cost, the DVDs are worth checking out, though the picture quality on the DVD is not DVD perfect and looks like the source was from a VHS Master.
Anyway, I like the OVAs, but I dig over the top big-mech action.

The OVA series is better than the Rayearth 2 TV (but doesn't surpass Rayearth 1 TV). It's much darker, than animation/characters are a little different, looks very cool. It helps if you've Rayearth 2 TV first, as it is sorta of a "what-if" in relation to it. I saw it before Rayearth 2 since I saw the OVA fansub. But it kicks the crap out of Rayearth 2 XD

I believe it the same thing if memory severs me right. I also think it is 2 movies. I dont remeber the names off the top of my head since i download them a while ago and I burned them on to cds. It loosely follows the first 2-3 Battle Angel alita mangas. It ends around Hugos death when he climing to that city in the sky (Sorry I to damn lazy to go look up how to spell it).Chaos Angel wrote:Oh, and another question whilst I am here, is Battle Angel the same as Battle Angel Alita? Battle Angel intrigues me, but I am seeing results for both on Google and IMDB.
Oh and before people go off on me about downloading it and no buying it. You can not buy the DVDs any more so Downloading it was my only thing I could do.

Mr or Mrs. DaggerDust26. Just so you are aware, it is bad form to recommend the illegal downloading of anime titles that have had their rights bought for North American distrobustion. Now, get your hands out of your pockets and find something productive to do.DaggerDust26 wrote:Well i seen most of the series of rayearth but just letting ya know ahead of time usually ova's screw it all up. so dont really know but just download it saves alot of trouble and money if it isnt good.

The IMdB has separate entries for the Japanese and English versions. But they're the same anime. It's a 2-episode OAV.Chaos Angel wrote:Oh, and another question whilst I am here, is Battle Angel the same as Battle Angel Alita? I thought it was out of print, but The Right Stuf claims to have it in stock and on sale.
