Need some help, FLCL

Post by Madpierrot » Mon May 05, 2003 1:42 pm

I just finished watching this show and I'll be honest, I really have very little clue what I just saw. Could someone please try to filter out what happened and example the show to me. Even though I didn't really understand all of it, I really liked what I saw and would appriciate any help you guys have in explaining it and making it a little bit more clearer to me. Thanks a lot.

GAiNAX titles always seem to elicit this kind of thing, or is it just me? Oh yeah, and obviously GARGANTUAN SPOILERS

I'l assume that you got the main thrust of what happened regarding Mamimi, Naota and his brother in the past, and focus on Haruko. The main bones of it is that Haruko is an alien who is after the power of infamous cool dude Atomsk. She tries to use the same system that teleports matter (eg robots) to attain it. The system is wired off of the energy created by the rift between the left and right brain hemispheres. Only certain minds are suitable for this- ie. Naota's. This is why Haruko rushes to the scene whenever her bracelet (attuned to Atomsk's power) goes off. At the end, she doesn't get what she's after.

There's an awful lot more to it than that, but that's the core, in my opinion. If you have the official Region 1 version, the sleevenotes are comprehensive and very helpful (eps 1-4 only so far), and are also accurate as they are reproductions of the original Japanese sleevenotes.

DVD 3 is suppsoed to be released 04/30/03 ... i don't feel like translating that into the normal month/day/year format ... but i think that means it was released already. April is the 4th month right?

What I am explaning is just what I've heard about the main character. Well a review I saw once said that the title, FLCL, basically tells about the Naota. As I recall the review said that "Fooly Cooly" basically means that the main character, Naota, is trying to be fool everyone into believeing that he is cool. Thus the name of the anime, and that eventually at the end he realizes that he isint yet quite as mature as he would like to believe, and have others believe. So he accepts it. Thus the very end part when hes in a uniform for school I believe. Any ways that was just what the review said, and after watching the anime myself I agree with it mostly. Sorry I could only tell you about Naota.

one of the things i'v kind of noticed is that htey never really out right explain very much in that show. Rather they will show you something and you get to draw your on conclusions as to how and why it had happened. Now i probably worded that wrong but i think you can get the picture ... liek with the robot father in ep 4 ...

FUCKLE!
what? my Arima avatar was amazing ... i had to cut his face in half and splice it wiht a pic from another frame to get rid of all the text that was all over it ... and the "feel my wrath" saying totaly fit the mood if you had ever seen that far into kare kano ... i'll problaby bring it back later ... but with all this FLCL talk i just had to bring Haruko back. i ahve other Avatars i can rotate between, though, don't think you've seen the last of Arima!

posting time shit ... yea every one hates that ... jstu take more time psoting and you don't ahve to worry aobut it ... if your long winded like i am then you can deal with it by positng lots of crack induced psychobabble like i do.

Synch-Point have been nice enough to print a still version of the manga scene in the first episode and print it in the sleevenotes of the Region 1 disc. There's also some very sound translation notes and some interesting background / research into a few things like what model of Vespa Haruko rides, what models her bass and Naota's guitar etc are...
