i've been wanting to watch the rurouni kenshin series and i've also been eyeing the oav's as well as the samurai x movies.
personally, i have no idea what i should watch first. I've been tempted to watch the oav's and the samurai x movie first because i don't have enough money to support the buying of all of the kenshin dvd's. i don't want to screw up the order that i watch them so that things are revealed that shouldn't be in the series. can anyone recommend how i should go about this? thanks

I saw the first and second DVDs a friend loaned me first, then I saw the Trust and Betrayal OVAs then the rest of the series
I recommend watching the OVAs first, because it will help you understand who he is, but I don't recommend watching the Movie, it is terrible and I still cannot figure out where in the stroyline it takes place

The "true" order of Kenshin (the manga order) is the TV series (episodes 1 - 12, 23, 24 28-62) and then the first OVAs (Trust and Betrayal). The second OVA and movie aren't really part of the timeline, but can be enjoyed. The movie I suggest any time after the TV series.
Now you're both probably wondering why I suggest watching the TV series which chronologically takes place AFTER the OVA. In the manga, the first OVA is a flashback that takes place literally after the Kyoto Arc (TV series) and leads straight into the Revenge Arc (never animated, only in the manga). Basically, you will enjoy the show a lot more NOT knowing what he did in the past. You will wonder this entire time how he got the scars, why he wants atonement, etc. Trust me on this...the bulid-up is worth it and not only that, but that's the true order according to the manga.
Not really related, but...isn't this the 2nd thread in a week asking the same question..and wasn't there one like that a few weeks ago again. Me thinks CN is making ppl interested in Kenshin...too bad their version sucks balls. Even sadder that I'm answering the same question with the same answer every week

You seem to have to say it alot.
Might aswell put it on your sig at this rate.
But DwChang is right ... i think the ova's do lend a little bit of a mystery, and suspense if held until late\ or end of the series, to know why the peace loving kenshin is known as the feared battousai.
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.

Yes, you got throughout the TV series wondering what he did and whatnot. Also the OVA has things in it you can't appreciate if you haven't seen the TV series like Okita, Saitoh and Shishio. If you hadn't seen the TV series, they're just random characters he battles with.FATTY_VM wrote: me nods in agreement.
