DK's Anime List

Post by Dark Kamui » Sun Apr 13, 2003 11:31 am

Check out my "chibi" anime list at http://www.hostultra.com/~DKamui/alist/

Keep in mind that it's mainly for refference purposes. I post it here so n00...errr.... new people in the anime scene can have a broader insight idea of what's available outside the range of lame commercial dubbing and overrated Toonami scraps. (DBZers, it's time you move on already! >_<)

Over 200 titles and you own one legit release? (I presume from the "Sonic - DVD" listing)

Are there that few releases in "Porto Riko"?

I don't own. I "have". Same way as members of this forum use propietary footage on their amateur projects. Also, it is my personal list, not what is released in Puerto Rico. (There are no local license companies here anyways)

I cannot afford licensed dubbed DVDs. What little DVDs I have are Hong Kong DVD releases. I get around my stuff from fansub groups, etc.

PR is nothing more than a US colony. However no one takes anime seriously here so people sell bootlegs like they were legit material at stores. (very overpriced I might add)

If it troubles you that someone gets what you have to pay for for free then it's your personal oppinion.

However, if the entire a-m-v.org community in whole feels the same way as you do then I will refrain from posting subjects like this. :-?

DK. no worries from my viewpoint, id imagine it would be hard to find decently priced goods over in PR as it is, let alone obscure anime titles, plus after creating the one end all, be all LInkin Ball Z Vid... whihc i can still watch a couple times a day, you should have immunity from all flames on this subject ....

annnyway, good list, i like how you fraded them too, it just makes it easier to tell, if a series was given a good grade, on just its merit rather than a person's likes or dislikes, id rather see it how you put it , in your own Ops.
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.

LOL. Believe it or not I still keep getting fanmail about the "Vegeta" AMV everyday.

Anyways you can get legit anime here, but see if you can follow my reasoning:

Let's say I want to start off an anime collection from 0. I want to get 100 different series to start, and each series is about 26 episodes long.
Ok, now if I wanted to get those series (legit dubs/subs) in DVD it would cost me about $30 USD (taxed) per volume at the local Sam's Goody. Each volume is 4 episodes. For a single 26 episode series I would have to buy 6 volumes totalling $180 USD. For getting 100 26 episdoes series I would have to buy 650 volumes. 650 volumes at $30 USD each would sum up to $19,500 USD.
In Puerto Rico, an average working proffesional earns around $25,000 or less per year. Part-time or non-specialty jobs earn less than $10,000-15,000. USD

DO THE MATH :-?

For people in the USA that earn $60,000 USD or more a year this shouldn't be a problem obviously. However for me it's a whole new ball game. Anyways, even if I had that kind of money I would probably spend it on something else. =_=;

Call me cynical for undervalueing anime if you want, but at this point I wouldn't pay more than $20-30 for a complete series in DVD or $1-12 for single movies.

A bigger problem with posting your list is that it's rather against the forum rules to distribute downloaded anime and hentai. While you do mention it's mainly for reference purposes, your site still lists a way of obtaining them. A newbie could look at your list, want a particular title and e-mail you for a trade. That would look pretty bad for this forum. There's also a bunch of moral and ethical problems with posting your list here, but I'm sure you're aware of that already.

Klin, not to be a jackass or anything, but i sure hope that we all know here, not to distribute bootlegged anime's.. and even if dk did recieve such emails, i am willing to bet (as i would in favor with most of the other posters here) that he would have the common sense not to use this site as an anchor of bootlegged anime, or anything for that matter that could be considered illegal.

Of course I know. If you had read that part of my statement you would have realised that I am aware that he wasn't blatantly distributing anime and hentai. And that I was referring to newbies, and several of them are not aware of forum rules. After all Dark Kamui's orginal post was directed at newbies. Why do men never pay attention to what I type? :|

Ok. First thing, I posted my list here so for example someone can go: "Hey! And I thought there was nothing else for me except EVA and DBZ!"

Errr...

[While you do mention it's mainly for reference purposes, your site still lists a way of obtaining them. A newbie could look at your list, want a particular title and e-mail you for a trade.]

Maybe you should know that to this date I have never "traded" with anyone. I mean sure, I get inquiries about the "DBZ" movies I used in my AMV all the time, but usually ignore such e-mails.
The reasons I haven't traded with anyone are simple:
1.People can often be too rude, stupid, or a mix of both.
2. Those that are smart enough to be polite and tactfull are able to get whatever they want on their own without trading.

So that about sums it up pretty much. If I say it's mainly for refference, then it's for REFFERENCE.

I'm not going to be some sort of super-ASS neither and keep secrets to myself to feel all high and mighty. I mention that I get stuff from fansub groups, but that's it. If anyone e-mails asking about fansubs groups I may give a brief explanation of the term (If I feel like it that is) but it doesn't mean I'll personally help them to get "free-hot-illegal-uncut-anime-warez". That would be their own doing...
