Rurouni Kenshin
I need some help. I've been watching this show now on cartoon network and i'm starting to get into it. So i looked it up on the interent and tried to find out about it or where to buy it but i don't understand how the show works. Does anyone know how many OVA's there are, what they are called, where they fit in the show, same with the movies and episodes. If anyone knows anything and can help out that would be great. Thanks.

Re: Rurouni Kenshin
I would watch the TV series first (whath is on cartoon network), the movie and then the OVAs. The OVAs take place when Kenshin is in the revolution (before the TV series), but it makes more sense to see the show and then this since in the Manga this was a flashback.Madpierrot wrote:I need some help. As for the TV series, I'd highly recommend only watching episodes 1 - 12, 23 - 24, 28 - 62. These are the episodes covered in the Manga. Episodes 63+ are literally filler and have nothing to do with the overall plot (in case you're wondering, Sony decided to make random episodes waiting for the manga to be released. Creator got pissed off and they never completed the manga). These episodes are (IMHO) god awful. 28 - 62 is the Kyoto arc and is excellent.
I think you'll notice quite a bit different when watching the DVDs since they are unedited and you can watch the original Japanese track (which is much better voice-acting in my opinion).

Thanks a lot for the help that makes it clearer. Just one other thing though from what i've read it seems like there are 2 OVA's that take place before the TV show(truth and betrayal) and two that take place after the TV show(the only name i've seen is reflections). Do you guys know if this is true or not. Thanks again.

Truth and Betrayel, Tv series, Reflections. Thats the order, Im not to sure the placement of the movie due to its randomness. By the way do yourself a favor, when the show gets the Kyoto series during the tv series try and watch it uncut, Im pretty sure that at least 50% of that whole season will be cut.

isn't the first ova disc (the one done by ADV. please DO NOT watch the dub of the ova. they really butcher it, and actually change the plot. it's one of the worst dubs i've ever seen) being called Trust, not Truth?
the first OVA is called Tsuioku Hen, and contains 4 episodes, the first 2 which are called Trust and the second 2 being called Betrayal. The second OVA is called Seisouhen, or Reflections. Seisouhen isn't so hot tho...but Tsuioku Hen is great. i think anyways

This is correct, but the OVAs should be seen after the TV series. As I said earlier, the OVA is about Kenshin's past, but I think you can appreciate it more if you watch the show and understand his character and sort of wonder things (which the OVA answers). I think it builds-up like that. In the manga, after the Kyoto Arc, the flashback happens (OVA) and then the final arc, the Revenge Arc.Madpierrot wrote:Thanks a lot for the help that makes it clearer. Sorry, didn't notice that I put truth. I am waiting right now for the directors cut to be released.BaHaRa wrote:isn't the first ova disc (the one done by ADV. please DO NOT watch the dub of the ova. they really butcher it, and actually change the plot. it's one of the worst dubs i've ever seen) being called Trust, not Truth?

is the directors cut worth getting instead of just buying Truth and Betrayal on there own? I was at FYE today and i saw them selling Truth and Reflections and i was really considering picking both of those up, but would the directors cut be a better road to go you think?
