Girls with guns in anime: Nothing but posers

Post by Madzack » Tue Mar 18, 2003 11:33 am

Posers. That's what they all are. Sure they're good with their guns, but that's just it. All they do is stand on their ground, aim gun and shoot. But they didn't do anything acrobatic like Alucard or Vash do with their guns. Such women also lack personality. They don't have that laidback attitude of Spike Spiegel, the impishness of Lupin, the psychosis of Alucard, the finesse of D, the seriousness of Duke Togo. In short, these kind of women lack "badass" quotient. They only have two modes: Look sexy and shoot, and look cute and shoot.

Noir, Miami Guns, Faye, Naomi Armitage, Agent Aika, so on. Posers, I say. That's what they all are.

Interesting point, although I like Armitage not cause she uses a gun. But because of the way she fights.
Also don't know if you are being completely serious but at the moment I can't think of someone who does. What about Gunsmith cats? Or Misato? I loved it when she was shootin in end of eva. Who else.....eh when I think of more I'll add.

What about Sir Integral Wingates Hellsing? Maybe shooting Yan wasn't much of a feat, but being able to stab herself through the neck certainly is. And there's gotta be something about her that would make Walter and Alucard follow her.

Kei and Yuri from the Dirty Pair TV series (Which hasn't come to US officially yet) often fired while flipping, leaping and so forth.

Gin Rei was also pretty damn acrobatic with guns.

Problem with Armitage is the part at the airport in the beginning of the 1st ep, where she tries to capture a main bad guy. How do you explain her screaming like a baby when she was caught by a robobaddie by her feet?

Although Im not sure about the acrobat part I do kinda agree. After watching Noir, watching them shoot left me empty. What I mean is they look totally fake shooting. I dont know exactly what it is but watching most women in anime shoot just doesn't look right for some reason.

Well sorry if you need a try hard cowboy wannabe shooting people and talking with his hip hop attitude.

Noir was awesome, Kirikia didn't just stay still and shoot, she kicked fucken arse, she wasn't really sexc or cute.. just cwel. I never so Spike jump of a building holding some dudes tie.
If your such a Chauvinistic pig who can't take a girl with a gun seriously then I guess you would only see them as posers. To confused at the aspect that a girl might have a personality rather then just be a sextoy.

I think the only person who lacks personality if you.
As for Bad Ass, I guess you never saw Chloe. She’s cold hearted, powerful and dark as all shit.

Btw, Misato had a gun to, she did some pretty cool shit.

Arse that didn't bleed when it should've  .

But that's another bleh debate.

Something I've kind of noticed is that anime chicks can fire large, machine-gun sized guns and handle them quite well, but they don't really get powerful handguns. Rally, for instance, while being kickass, fires a wimpy 9mm pistol at best. Why can't she fire, say, a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle, one-handed no less? A lot of people in the real world, of both genders, lack the physique to effectively use machine guns and the higher powered rifles. In anime, of course, this rule is broken, so why not use large handguns across the board for both genders?

Reeks of Japanese chauvinism to me  .
I'm out...
