considering almost every anime started as a manga its hard to seperate the two. For me it depends on the material that is used in either. Most times the anime sticks true to the manga but sometimes they dont. For example in the El Hazard anime series the kinda split the manga into two alternate universes. I loved the manga better but I also loved the series they created (excluding Alternate World). I dont like one over the other it just depends but most the time there is little difference.

good point, i would have to say that prefur the manga, as with every anime i`ve seen thats based on a manga the anime has been poor, the story lines are chaged around, characters some times are given different personalits, and the write never seems to have the "heart" of the orignal.

I like the GetBackers anime better than the manga. The manga was drawn in a rather shoujo-style, and the anime had a different art-style that was much more colorful and showed the transition when character's emotions were changing and also these things made the characters seem more lively. Also, the good music soundtrack was made to be heard in the anime.
It is relatively faithful to the manga's story as well.
My favorite manga series is probably Violinist of Hameln. There was an anime for it as well, it was quite good but it lacked the campy humour that the manga had. Also the story was changed some. One of the great things about the VoH manga was that it could be painfully sad one page and then ridiculously funny, on that same page. Quite a few of those humorous portions would indeed be very strange and somewhat difficult to animate. Fortunately, the movie was really funny and more along the lines of the manga although it didn't have as many sight 'gag's as the manga. More like just wacky slapstick. So yeah, to sum up I like the VoH manga better than the anime.

Rule one, all anime is a manga.
Rule two, the manga shall always be better than the anime if the manga came first.
Rule three, if the anime does not have a magna before it is created, then it will afterward.

I like manga over anime for the same reason I like books over movies... The manga often leaves a lot to your fantasy, which is a good point.
No matter how good the movies are, the manga's are allways better, good examples are Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Evangelion.
Then again, my words don't really hold any meaning since those three are the only real manga's I've read.
Anyway, you get the point.
