I totally agree with you on that!

Basically all of the horror anime for me. Another, Higurashi, Umineko, Mirai Nikki. All of those were first episodes that had me hooked. Also, all of the Key anime such as AIR, Clannad, Angel Beats!, Kanon, etc.

oh, but whoever said fullmetal alchemist. Definitely. never seen a more epic first episode. It set up the premise, they accomplished a really great feat, there was action, mystery, suspense, it made you think! It's one of the most memorable episodes from that series too tbh

I still need to finish the entire series though but it had me going, "Wait...weren't those guys the plucky ragtag squad that have a tragic backstory with a mysterious antagonist and will come in and always save the day? Well, guess that's not the case in this one, hardly knew ye...
