not that i'm against anime or anything but in the name of fairness and equality:

Dragonball GT
Digi Charat
Pokemon
Dead Leaves
Inuyasha
One Piece
Yu-Gi-Oh

Most anime is crap, and doesn't have a deep meaning as well.

Crap Anime

Post by hobogenesis » Mon Jan 17, 2005 3:10 pm

Hold on, those are all anime series that target 8 year olds. I was talkin more about stuff for kids and adults like Hellsing, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Wing and Trigun.

And in the japanese version of Pokemon, I heard Brock actually got laid. But other than that it is utter crap.

That doesn't change my point. Most American live action stuff is crap, most anime is crap.
And as far as deep meaning goes, there are American films and some tv series that display a deep meaning. (Donnie Darko, Series 7, Fight Club (so what if it's from a novel), Penn & Teller's Bullshit!).

essentially you have to remember that anime, a part of animation, can be just as expressive and shallow as any other series. it's just that anything too deep isn't popular, isn't successful, and normally wouldn't be worth the time for an American company to eithe r make, or take a risk on by buying the rights to the anime.

of course, i'll retract that statement the exact moment i see anything by Satoshi Kon on Fox or USA

DO NOt get me started on Donnie Darko! The Temporal Mechanics is utter crap! The entire idea of sacrifice was lost to most viewer because everyone loved the fact that the bunny was soooo cool.

The movie was shit!

Fight Club I'll give you that one because it was not just well written but it was a good story too.

Never Heard of Series 7 what is that?

i hated the bunny. i lughed the first time i saw it.

again, Fight Club was a novel, so i'm not asking for credit about that.

Series 7 is a satirical indie film about this reality TV show "The contenders" where the involuntary players have to kill each other off.

if you don't like the movies, i couldn't give less of a damn. i tried hard, but i really don't care.

but you have to admit these movies are much deeper than... Super Milk Chan

sorry about the double post, but i mean that my point, that some Amer. stuff and anime, and manga, and comics, and pretty much any other work of ANY artistic medium, is deep while most of it is crap.

You are right about that, but my problem is that most americans think all anime is utter crap while live action is good. They think anime has no meaning whatsoever

What really bugs me about that is a ton of american live-action has no plot, just pure action with no reason. How is that better than a good, story-driven anime? Even if they refuse to watch anime, why would they watch some napkin-back story, action movie just becuase it looks good?

Your guess is as good as mine. Im more of the Spaghetti Western type of guy and those movies have great stories and charcter development.
