So like otakus.

You can get new friends at conventions though even if I've never been at one. It'll be the first 'To do' when I finish school.

You're not an otaku because of you already watched 200 anime
You're just another fan.

Just have a look at wiki's report. Being an otaku isn't something you should being proud of.

I like anime,too. (^.^)

so yeah... How does watching 200 anime make me NOT an otaku?

You should read everything from a test not just the first line:
Wiki, a few lines later wrote:[...]The term otaku in Japanese usage generally suggests a creepy, obsessive loner who rarely leaves the house.[...]
I wouldn't really be proud of being called otaku, not in the extreme meaning that is the actual meaning of the word.

If you just wanna intend a lighter meaning, then use the word fan as tao said. :|

I never said I liked em all :| About 50 of them I've only watched the 1st episode. About 80 are unfinished but I'm wanting finish at some point. I think i've finished about 40 (mostly short 12 episode ones) and the rest are stuff I'm still watching (seen an episode within the past month).

Isn't that more of a hikikimori? Alot of otaku (in fact most) aren't like that. "Geek" has a similar association but (at least where I come from) we are proud to be geeks. There are only a couple of people at my school who make fun of me for being in otaku, I just act like I don't care (I really actually don't care at all), they're idiots by the way and not just because they make fun of me, they truly are idiots.

And btw I don't find otaku demeaning at all.

"And btw I don't find otaku demeaning at all."

In the beginning I would agree.

But if I called you a "fucking pedo" or a "fucking pervert" it would bother you (I would hope).

In the beginning I thought 'otaku' was amusing. But in Japan the term does not equate to our use of the term 'geek'.

I don't mind being labelled a 'fan' but nah, I stopped sanctioning 'otaku' when I finally had seen enough of the actual Japanese mainstream's opinion of what they refer to as otaku among them.

If you label yourself 'poorly' you could just end up being more 'lonely' than you had to be.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.
