Metropolis was a work of art. More so a work of art than an actual movie. It's like watching a painting express itself. Not everything makes perfect clear sense but the atmosphere, the feel, is enough to draw you in and take for a ride. I loved the movie, but I've only watched it once. It's hit or miss. You get it or you don't

Personally I liked the retro feel that the animation had. The animators blended the cg in with the cells very nicely as well. Not to mention the fact that some of the character designs resembled Mega-Man (go Mega-Man!!).

I found the ending to be a bit patronizing (He's all right, folks!). But I loved the use of music during the explosion. It just catches you completely off guard the first time and leaves you going, "What the hell just happened?".

Overall I really enjoyed the movie. I didn't expect it to be some deep piece of art or the storytelling event of the century, just a fun ride. And I wasn't dissapointed in the least.

I rather see spirited away a thoused times than metropolis

I agree. I liked Spirited Away a lot. Metropolis was beautiful, but it was bad at the same time. I din't misunderstand it, though. Close, but no cigar.

Haven't had an image up for awhile.

Well judging by your spelling and how much detail you put into your reasons for not liking metropolis, I can see why it's such a bad movie.

Its been a while since I last watched it, but I think in terms of presentation it was done well (the entire atmosphere, character designs and music).

I think it was a good anime...not great.

For me the animation took a while to get use to, but after a while you just get drawn in.

One thing which put me off when I got into it, was at the end with the music during the explosions, that just made me almost seperate myself from the mood of the anime....which for was not a good thing at the end of the it.

I'm gonna have to watch it again as it seems a blur now.

I kind of felt that way too, that the music kind of distanced you from what was happening. It reminded you that you were watching a movie, and prevented you from getting drawn in too much.

It may have been intentional. Maybe the director wanted to distance the viewers.
