I did see Volume 6 in the store when I shopped this weekend. It doesn't have 22-24. It has the Original and the Director's Cut of 21-23 (Volume 5 has Episodes 18-20)bobbarker31 wrote:The only deleted scenes I saw were added the director's cut episodes (22,23,and 24) which we saw winter of last year. I still do not know the disposition of the last two remaining DVDs to be released, but I have seen nothing of deleted scenes on them (other than the animatics which can have alternate takes on things).
It has a full-length animatic and a new commentary, but that's about it for extras.

Just like the Director Cuts of the previous year, though there are 6 episodes remaining for the last two DVDs, only three of them will have any new material cut into them. Some of this material was seen once before in the "Death and Rebirth" movie and some of it brand new. Rei's sacrifice to destroy the angel is VERY different and there is some more Asuka losing her mind and history of the birth of Nerv. My favorite was the conversation that Kaworu had with Seele prior to his assault on Terminal Dogma and Misato's investigation into him.GloryQuestor wrote:I did see Volume 6 in the store when I shopped this weekend. I like the deleted scenes, but you would not miss any great revelation not to see them. They are only for three episodes (though they make it look like 6) and we have seen them before last year.

Not at the moment. Manga owns the rights to the two movies and ADV has the series. This prevents the big box set release that was done in Japan.
I have heard a lot about both of the movies being cleaned up and looking stunning, but nothing about Manga re-releasing them in the new version as of yet.
It's goofy when a studio licenses part of one series and not the other part that is just as integeral.

Especially when the Japanese seiyuus are the same on many different projects, but the English VAs are different (for example, the Magic Knight Rayearth TV series and the Rayearth OVA all have the same Japanese voice cast, but two different though very similar English voice casts).bobbarker31 wrote:It's goofy when a studio licenses part of one series and not the other part that is just as integeral.
I mean, if the Japanese companies could do it, Manga and ADV could do it (for Evangelion TV series and movies), and Manga and BANDAI could do it for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (well, bringing back some of the cast from the movie, anyway), then why can't other companies keep voice actors who do roles in more than one project?

Its all about money in the end, mainly because the seiyuu's that did anime movies are harder to get for the series it follows. Well it doesnt really bother me that much, just as long as they sound at least similar to the series voiceovers. This can be seen in the Eva movie (well thats what I think anyway)

The quality of the new dubs dropped in my opinon for the last six evangelion episodes. Not just for how the characters sound, but for their timing and emotion. Do a side by side comparison if you get these last two platinum discs or the "Director's Cuts" and you will see what I mean. Of course the original Japanese sounds great if you want to bypass the dubs all together.HellDeathscythe666 wrote:Its all about money in the end, mainly because the seiyuu's that did anime movies are harder to get for the series it follows. Evangelion's dub for the first few episodes is almost unforgivably obnoxious, but it did get better by leaps and bounds as the series progressed.

The Director's Cut dubbing issues are easy to understand -- they just couldn't get everyone back to do it. Some are easy to understand, but what about:bobbarker31 wrote:The quality of the new dubs dropped in my opinon for the last six evangelion episodes. - Jason Lee (Aoba) replaced in his role, although Amanda Winn Lee came back to play Rei.
- Kendra Spencer (Maya) was replaced by Monica Rial, but what happened to Kendra Spencer? I haven't heard a lot about either of the Spencers lately, actually.)
The biggest loss was Tristan McAvery as Gendo Ikari. The replacement was really disappointing, despite a good performance.

I think the reason behind the dub getting better as time goes on was due to the fact that everyone was really getting into the groove at that point. (iirc, ADV's cast only did two others before this one -- Blue Seed and Burn Up, so it's only with their third project that things really started to pick up in performance and quality.)
