Yes. But there's different kinds of 3D. As cool as some basic 3D may be, I believe professional-looking 3D rendering of animation does take a solid amount of skill and resources.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Heh, yea, but 3 hours!
23 min average anime episode = 1380sec.
138x3hrs = 414hours
414hours x 26 episodes (average anime series) = 10764 hours = 448.5 days non-stop = 269.1 average work weeks without overtime = 5.175 years
There, by the way, is a good estimate for how long it will take one to just animate a full series, 3d or 2d, even if you do it full time and concentrate on animation only. And that's not including concept work, writing, etc.
Better pace yerself

and with 30 frames of animation each second, thats 39240 frames of animation per eppisode. not to mention backgrounds, then scaning in each image to colour it.Otohiko wrote:Heh, yea, but 3 hours!

Well, generally speaking though, it's rare for TV anime to constantly go with even 12 FPS of actual animation, and a lot of character drawings and backgrounds can be re-used. Only some high-budget movies actually animate at 24, and I've never heard of animation made at 30FPS (though I guess it's viable with CG)
Granted, even at a mean 8-12 FPS of real animation, that's a lot of work.
