Actually I don't like listening to Kaworu talk in English.

It's good if you want to hear what words he stresses and the attitude he has (something I can't get listening to Japanese). I guess knowing how he says things is just as important as what he says being the character he is. He has a bigger range of emotions then we think: happiness, sadness, contentment, concern, confusion.... Heck at one point I'd say he's even boastful. But if it weren't for the dubbed version, I wouldn't know that since to me all the japanese just sounds calm. All the other characters either really wear their emotions on their sleeve...or in the case of Rei, just say they don't know how to react to something (but even Rei has had her rare moments in which she shows happiness, sadness, anger and embarrassment). Kaworu isn't as obvious or at least he wasn't as onvious to me.

But the English Kaworu sounds stereotypically gay (and I'm saying that as a statement and not an insult) while the subbed Kaworu just sounds calm...as I personally think he should sound like. Plus I think he is the better singer in the subbed version. The subbed Kaworu hums "Ode to Joy" a bit better then the dubbed. But that's just my opinion. A good singing voice usually earns brownie points with me.

I think Misato, Shinji and Rei were good picks for the dub.

It's another example of how much this other world being shown to Shinji is different then then than the world he was used to. You just hear it and it's like.....REI just said that?!
Gendo.....eh.....he sounds too young and Asuka sounds waaaaaaaaay to old. It doesn't work when she complains. The only thing that sounds worse then a child complaining is an adult complaining.

um, actualy i realy liked the calm and soothing sound of kaworu's voice. it realy brings out his caring, "human" side. oh and even if he did sound gay (and a stereotipical gay voice is akine to a little boy speaking in a high pitched tone), i dont realy care because him and shinji are the cutest couple in existance
